How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our client, a leader in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a skilled Spacecraft Operations System Engineer to join their team on a contract basis in Alton, with potential for hybrid working.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Collaborating with System Engineers to shape the CONOPS for future missions
    Identifying and communicating spacecraft operations requirements and constraints for missions
    Supporting the delivery of internal and external milestone reviews for projects
    Developing, maintaining and reviewing operational procedures, including flight operations handbooks and spacecraft commissioning procedures
    Conducting real-time spacecraft operations during routine and critical/anomaly investigation phases
    Contributing to planning, scheduling, and coordination with system engineers, flight dynamics, and ground software teams
    Supporting the development and continual improvement of operational tools for customer service delivery
    Providing health reports to governing bodies

    Job Requirements:

    Essential:

    Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
    Experience in the satellite industry, ideally in spacecraft operations
    Strong understanding of satellite subsystems, especially AOCS/GNC or OBDH
    Good understanding of ground systems and tools
    Hands-on experience with mission control systems, operations tools, and simulators
    Proven ability to perform under pressure
    Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
    Excellent team working skills, with the ability to interface across various teams
    Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
    Confident communicator, fluent in English, both verbally and written
    Flexibility to work out of hours supporting the on-call rota
    Security clearances, or the willingness to undergo the procedure
    Desirable:

    Knowledge of orbital mechanics and flight dynamics, with experience in formation flying and close proximity satellite operations
    Solid systems engineering knowledge applied to space missions
    Knowledge of Linux operating systems
    Experience with Python, GIT, and Rest API
    Experience with Service Management tooling
