Huddersfield | Up to £16.50 per hour | Days-Based Role
Are you the type of engineer who prefers a spanner in your hand rather than sitting behind a desk? Do you enjoy fault-finding, repairing, fabricating, and keeping machinery running smoothly? If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
We're recruiting on behalf of a long-established manufacturing business in Huddersfield looking for a practical, hands-on Site Maintenance Engineer to join their experienced maintenance team.
This is not a role focused on the latest automated systems and PLC programming. Instead, you'll be working on a range of older, robust industrial machinery that has been exceptionally well maintained over the years. The site takes great pride in its equipment, preventative maintenance culture, and high engineering standards.
If you enjoy traditional engineering, solving mechanical problems, and taking ownership of machinery reliability, you'll feel right at home here.
The Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you'll play a key role in keeping production running efficiently by carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance across the site.
Your responsibilities will include:
Planned preventative maintenance on plant and equipment
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults
Supporting breakdown response and minimising downtime
Welding and fabrication repairs where required
Conducting inspections and defect reporting
Maintaining pumps, motors, valves, conveyors and ancillary equipment
Working closely with production teams to ensure equipment reliability
Supporting site improvement projects and general engineering activities
Maintaining high standards of housekeeping within the workshop and plant areas

We're looking for a genuine maintenance engineer who enjoys being on the tools and takes pride in quality workmanship.

Apprentice-trained or time-served engineer
Strong mechanical maintenance background
Experience within manufacturing, production, heavy industry, or process environments
Skills in fitting, turning, milling, and welding
