About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join our growing M&E subcontracting team, delivering high quality mechanical building services installations on commercial fit out and construction projects.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the delivery of mechanical packages from pre construction through to commissioning and handover, ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably, on programme, and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with main contractors, consultants, suppliers, and internal teams, you will oversee all aspects of project planning, procurement, installation, and commercial performance.
This role is ideally suited to an individual with a strong background in mechanical building services and a proven track record of delivering projects within an M&E subcontracting environment.
Mechanical Project Manager Key Responsibilities
* Manage the successful delivery of mechanical building services packages on behalf of the M&E subcontractor.
* Take ownership of projects from contract award through to commissioning and final handover.
* Develop and maintain detailed project programmes, ensuring all contractual milestones are achieved.
* Coordinate mechanical site teams, supervisors, subcontractors, and specialist suppliers.
* Manage procurement activities, ensuring materials, plant, and equipment are ordered and delivered in line with programme requirements.
* Monitor project costs, labour allocations, subcontractor accounts, and variations to ensure commercial targets and margins are achieved.
* Work closely with the commercial team to identify, price, and submit variations and change requests.
* Review mechanical designs, technical specifications, drawings, and BIM information to identify risks, clashes, and value engineering opportunities.
* Attend and lead project meetings with clients, consultants, main contractors, and internal stakeholders.
* Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, public health, fire protection, and other building services disciplines.
* Ensure all mechanical installations comply with project specifications, industry standards, and statutory regulations.
* Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance across all project activities.
* Manage testing, commissioning, witnessing, and validation processes for mechanical systems.
* Ensure timely production and submission of O&M manuals, as built drawings, commissioning records, and handover documentation.
* Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation measures.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, main contractors, consultants, and supply chain partners.
Mechanical Project Manager Requirements
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager within an M&E subcontractor, building services contractor, or specialist mechanical contractor environment.
* Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, air conditioning, ventilation, heating, pipework, public health, and mechanical building services systems.
* Experience delivering mechanical packages on commercial fit out, office refurbishment, mixed use, healthcare, education, or commercial construction projects.
* Demonstrable experience managing projects ranging from £500k to £10m+ in value.
* Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets, subcontract accounts, variations, and cost reporting.
* Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
* Experience coordinating with main contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
* Excellent planning, organisational, negotiation, and communication skills.
* Strong understanding of current health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management software.
* Relevant mechanical or building services qualification (HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent) desirable.

£320.00 - £360.00 per day
