About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Mechanical Supervisor to join our M&E subcontracting team, delivering mechanical building services installations on commercial fit out and construction projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising mechanical site activities, coordinating labour and subcontractors, and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, programme requirements, and quality standards. Working closely with the Project Manager and site teams, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of mechanical packages from installation through to commissioning and handover.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands on supervisor with strong technical knowledge and experience within an M&E subcontractor or building services environment.
Mechanical Supervisor Key Responsibilities
* Supervise the installation of mechanical building services systems, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
* Manage and coordinate mechanical operatives, subcontractors, and specialist suppliers on site.
* Ensure all mechanical works are carried out in accordance with drawings, specifications, programme requirements, and company standards.
* Monitor site progress and provide regular updates to the Project Manager on productivity, labour resources, and programme milestones.
* Coordinate mechanical activities with the main contractor, other M&E disciplines, and associated trades.
* Review drawings and technical information to identify installation challenges, clashes, and opportunities for improved delivery.
* Conduct regular quality inspections to ensure installations meet project and industry standards.
* Promote and enforce high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance across all site activities.
* Attend site coordination meetings, toolbox talks, and progress meetings as required.
* Assist with material management, ensuring plant, equipment, and materials are available in line with programme requirements.
* Support commissioning activities, testing procedures, snagging, and defect resolution.
* Ensure accurate site records are maintained, including labour returns, progress reports, quality inspections, and health and safety documentation.
* Identify and resolve technical and operational issues to minimise programme delays.
* Support the successful completion and handover of mechanical installations, including the close out of outstanding works.
Mechanical Supervisor Requirements
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Supervisor within an M&E subcontractor, mechanical contractor, or building services environment.
* Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, air conditioning, ventilation, heating, pipework, and mechanical building services installations.
* Experience delivering commercial fit out, office refurbishment, healthcare, education, or commercial construction projects.
* Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
* Strong understanding of mechanical installation methods, commissioning processes, and industry best practice.
* Excellent leadership and people management skills, with experience supervising subcontractors and direct labour teams.
* Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to coordinate multiple work fronts simultaneously.
* Good understanding of current health and safety legislation and site compliance requirements.
* Ability to monitor programme performance and proactively address delays or installation issues.
* Relevant trade background and industry qualifications preferred.
* SSSTS or SMSTS certification desirable.
