How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    FLT Counterbalance Driver / Yard Operative

    Location: Long Whatton
    Pay: £12.71 per hour (Temporary) | £13.54 per hour (Permanent)
    Job Type: Full-Time | Temp to Perm

    Working Hours

    Monday to Friday: 7:30am – 5:00pm

    Every other Saturday: 8:00am – 12:00pm

    The Opportunity

    The Recruitment Group is recruiting on behalf of a well-established timber merchant in Long Whatton for an experienced FLT Counterbalance Driver / Yard Operative.

    This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering the chance to secure a permanent position following a successful temporary period. You'll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of a busy timber yard, carrying out a mixture of forklift driving, manual handling and general yard duties.

    Please note: This is an outdoor role, working in all weather conditions, and requires a hands-on approach.

    Essential Requirements

    To be considered for this role, you must have:

    A valid B1 Counterbalance Forklift Licence with previous operating experience (essential).

    Previous experience working within a timber yard, builders' merchant, warehouse or outdoor yard environment.

    The ability to carry out manual handling throughout the working day.

    A flexible approach to working hours, including every other Saturday.

    A good understanding of Health & Safety procedures.

    Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

    A positive, reliable and hardworking attitude.

    Key Responsibilities

    Safely operate a B1 Counterbalance Forklift Truck.

    Load and unload deliveries efficiently.

    Pick and prepare customer orders accurately.

    Restock timber and building materials throughout the yard.

    Carry out manual handling duties safely and efficiently.

    Assist customers with loading materials when required.

    Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.

    Follow all Health & Safety procedures and company policies.

    Work effectively as part of a busy yard team.
