How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Apex Resources Limited are on the lookout for a 278 works Heavy Civils setting out engineer in Haslingden, BB4

    The ideal candidate will combine strong technical surveying knowledge with practical construction experience and the ability to work closely with project managers, site engineers, subcontractors, and machine operators in demanding site environments. As a Heavy Civil Setting Out Engineer, you will be responsible for interpreting engineering drawings, establishing control points, transferring design data to the field, and verifying that construction activities are executed accurately.

    You will use modern surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, digital levels, and data collection software to perform setting out and as-built surveys. You will also help identify discrepancies between design intent and site conditions, raising technical issues early so that delays, rework, and cost overruns can be minimized. The role requires a high level of precision, attention to detail, and confidence in working with coordinates, levels, and geometric calculations.

    You will be expected to maintain reliable survey records, produce clear reports, and support quality assurance processes by documenting completed works and confirming compliance with tolerances. In addition, you will contribute to safe site operations by planning survey activities carefully, following health and safety procedures, and coordinating with construction teams to avoid disruption and hazards. 278 works and Heavy Civils experience is essential and must have at least 2 checkable references!

    Start Date: Monday 29th June

    Contract Rate: Day rates negotiable dependant on experience and tickets

    Duration: Long term work available (5-6 years work)

    Requirements: Valid CSCS Engineering card, 278 works experience, own tools and PPE
