How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We’re working with a specialist civil engineering contractor delivering long-term infrastructure works within the Southern Water framework. They’re looking to bring in a Graduate or Apprentice-level Quantity Surveyor who is keen to learn, develop, and build a long-term career in the water sector.

This is a genuine opportunity to work closely with an experienced Head of Commercial, gaining hands-on exposure to projects and commercial management from day one.

    The Role:

    * Supporting the commercial team across a range of water infrastructure projects

    * Assisting with cost reporting, valuations, and variations

    * Working with NEC forms of contract

    * Learning the full commercial lifecycle of civils projects

    * Building strong relationships with site and operational teams

    * Hybrid working, with flexibility based on output and trust

    What They’re Looking For:

    * Degree / HNC / HND in Quantity Surveying or similar (or currently working towards)

    * Strong work ethic and willingness to learn

    * Interest in civil engineering / infrastructure (water experience beneficial but not essential)

    * Basic understanding of NEC contracts (or eagerness to learn)

    * Good communication skills and attention to detail

    Why This Role?

    * Direct mentorship from an experienced Head of Commercial

    * Clear progression pathway within a growing contractor

    * Exposure to major water infrastructure works

    * Flexible, adult working environment focused on output rather than micromanagement

If you’re looking for a role where you’ll actually learn, be supported, and develop into a fully-fledged Quantity Surveyor – contact Andy Cook on the contact details provided or apply directly to this advert
