How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Principal Structures Engineer

    Location: Bristol, Avon

    About the job.

    National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Principal Structures Engineer to join our Asset Management division within Operations. As a Principal Structures Engineer, you will provide technical expertise in managing National Highways infrastructure and provide specialist knowledge to Engineers involved in the identification and evaluation of asset specific needs and early solutions.

    This role can be based from either our Bristol or Exeter office on a hybrid basis.

    Please note you will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full driving licence, with no more than 3 points, to be considered for this position.

    * Develop asset specific management plans and ensure asset management decisions adhere to policies, provide value for money, and maximise contribution to the delivery of business objectives.

    * Identify and commission survey works to support the improvement and/or renewal of assets; to check and approve technical briefs, reports, specifications, drawings and supporting information.

    * Provide specialist technical expertise and assurance in the development of early solutions for asset renewals and improvement schemes through the value management process and evaluation of option studies.

    * Continuously monitor and analyse asset data, to champion asset data quality, integrity and adherence to data standards and guidelines.

    * Develop and recommend best practice methods for the identification and evaluation of asset condition and future needs to support the ongoing development of asset maintenance strategies.

    About you.

    * A Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with extensive experience, or equivalent.

    * Degree in relevant discipline, Higher National Diploma, or Higher National Certificate with relevant experience, or equivalent experience.

    * Expert knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling.

    * Understanding of value management processes, asset decision making and development asset management plans.

    * Experience in highways infrastructure design, highway construction and delivery methods.
