How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Location: Somerset (Projects located between Bridgwater and Yeovil)

Rate: £320–£360 per shift (CIS or Ltd Company)

Contract: Freelance | Minimum 12-Month Assignment | Long-Term Framework Programme

Start Date: Within the Next Few Weeks

    The Opportunity

A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced General Foreman to support the delivery of a major programme of works for Wessex Water across Somerset.

The successful candidate will oversee one of four standalone project sites delivering upgrades and refurbishment works to existing sewage treatment facilities. These projects include the construction of large reinforced concrete structures, both above and below ground, deep and shallow drainage installations, road construction, pipelines, shafts, and associated civil engineering infrastructure.

This role will suit an individual who enjoys taking ownership of site operations and driving works forward safely, efficiently, and to programme. Water industry experience is not essential; however, candidates must have a strong background delivering civil engineering, infrastructure, or heavy construction projects.

The successful candidate will join a long-term framework programme with a secured pipeline of work. The initial assignment is expected to run for a minimum of 12 months, with further opportunities available across the framework, which has workload extending for up to seven years.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Manage day-to-day site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements.

    * Supervise and coordinate direct labour, subcontractors, plant, and materials.

    * Lead site teams and provide clear direction to operatives, gangs, and subcontractors.

    * Maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance.

    * Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks, and daily coordination meetings.

    * Monitor progress and identify opportunities to improve productivity and programme performance.

    * Work closely with Site Agents, Project Managers, Engineers, and commercial teams to ensure successful project delivery.

    * Ensure all works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and relevant industry standards.

    * Maintain accurate site records and support reporting requirements.

    * Drive a positive site culture, promoting accountability, professionalism, and high performance throughout the workforce.

    About You

    * Previous experience as a General Foreman, Foreman, Works Manager, or similar supervisory role within civil engineering or infrastructure.

    * Strong understanding of construction methodologies relating to reinforced concrete, drainage, earthworks, pipelines, highways, or utility infrastructure.

    * Proven ability to manage site teams and coordinate multiple work fronts.

    * Excellent leadership and communication skills.

    * Strong commitment to health and safety and quality standards.

    * Ability to motivate teams, maintain discipline on site, and drive programme delivery in a fast-paced construction environment.

    * SMSTS or SSSTS qualification required

    * CSCS Card required.

    What's on Offer?

    * £320–£360 per shift.

    * CIS or Ltd Company payment options available.

    * Minimum 12-month assignment with the potential for significantly longer-term work.

    * Secured workload on a major Wessex Water framework with projects planned for up to seven years.

    * Opportunity to work on technically challenging infrastructure and civil engineering projects.

    * Stable programme of works in Somerset.

    * Immediate interviews and a start within the coming weeks.
