How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: Chichester
Salary: NJC Grade 4, Points 5–6
    Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Term time only plus INSET days, 8:30am – 3:00pm (including lunch duties)

Teaching Personnel are working with a successful 11–16 coeducational school located in the Emsworth area, graded ‘GOOD’ in all areas by Ofsted. The school is seeking cover supervisors to join the team on a full-time basis from September 2026, on a temporary to permanent basis.

    The Role

Cover Supervisors are key to the smooth running and effectiveness of the school. The role involves supervising whole classes during the short-term absence of a teacher, delivering pre-set work, and ensuring students remain engaged and on task. You will support students with their learning, maintain a positive classroom environment, and manage behaviour in line with school policies. The role also includes participation in tutor time and lunch duties, as well as subject lessons, allowing you to become a familiar, trusted and valued presence across the school. This is a varied and rewarding position at the heart of school life, and a full training and support programme will be provided for individuals looking to build experience in an educational setting.

    About You

Do you have the confidence to quickly build rapport with young people and keep them motivated and focused in the classroom? Are you eager to make a positive impact on students’ lives? We are looking for individuals who are confident, adaptable, and able to manage a classroom effectively, as well as patient, resilient, and equipped with a good sense of humour. A passion for supporting young people’s development and a commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth are essential. If you are driven to help students become the best version of themselves, we would love you to join a team that shares this vision.

    The Ideal Candidate

Working as a Cover Supervisor is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable school-based experience, particularly for those considering a career in teaching. This role would be well suited to graduates or aspiring teachers, individuals with classroom or behaviour management experience, qualified teachers seeking a non-teaching role, or candidates returning to work or exploring a career in education.

The school is easily accessible by car and public transport and is located just a 5-minute walk from a local train station.  Please apply now with your CV if you would be interested in this role.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.

We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
