How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    R&D Tax Consultant

    Location: Derby / East Midlands

    Working Pattern: 4 days in office

    About the Role

    An established and growing specialist advisory firm is looking to appoint an R&D Tax Consultant to support the continued delivery of high-quality R&D tax claims across a varied client base.

    The successful candidate will work closely with Tax Managers and senior colleagues, supporting the full lifecycle of R&D claims from initial information gathering through to technical report preparation, costing, submission support and ongoing client care.

    The role would suit someone detail-focused, commercially aware and confident speaking with clients, finance teams and technical stakeholders. You will play an important part in ensuring claims are accurate, well-evidenced and aligned with current HMRC expectations.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Support the delivery of end-to-end R&D tax claims, including scoping, eligibility assessment, technical interviews, costing, documentation and submission preparation

    * Prepare and contribute to clear, robust technical narratives that accurately capture qualifying R&D activity

    * Assist with cost analysis, evidence gathering and claim calculations in line with current guidance and best practice

    * Work directly with clients to understand their projects, technical challenges, expenditure and supporting documentation

    * Liaise with finance, technical and operational stakeholders to gather the information required for compliant claims

    * Support Tax Managers with client portfolio management, deadlines, reporting and claim progression

    * Help ensure claims are enquiry-ready, with a clear audit trail and well-organised supporting evidence

    * Contribute to a professional and responsive client experience through clear communication and high-quality work

    * Keep up to date with changes in R&D tax legislation, HMRC guidance and sector best practice

    Skills & Experience Required

    * Experience working within R&D tax, tax advisory, accounting or a related professional services environment

    * Understanding of R&D tax relief, tax credits, qualifying activity and HMRC expectations

    * Ability to produce clear written work, including technical summaries, client notes and supporting documentation

    * Good numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to work with costing information and Excel-based trackers

    * Commercially aware, proactive and keen to deliver a strong client experience

    * A relevant qualification such as CTA, ACCA, ATT or AAT, or working towards one, would be beneficial

    The Person

    The ideal candidate will be technically curious, organised and client-focused. They will take pride in producing accurate, well-supported work and will be comfortable working as part of a collaborative, growing team.

    This role would suit someone who wants to continue developing their R&D tax expertise while gaining exposure to a wide range of clients, sectors and technical projects. You will be someone who values quality, compliance and strong client relationships, while bringing a positive and professional approach to the team.

    * Christmas shutdown (no need to use annual leave allowance)

    * 24/7 GP access

    * Tech scheme

    * Savings club
