How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Role Overview:

Due to continued growth within their Southern Integrated Delivery CP7 rail framework, my client is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team delivering long-term rail civils and earthworks projects across the Southern region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a QS with 1-2 years' experience to develop within a structured commercial team, working closely with Senior QS's and gaining hands-on exposure to NEC contract administration, subcontract management, and project cost control across multiple rail schemes.

Projects sit within a long-term framework, delivering rail earthworks, drainage, and associated civils packages. While earthworks experience is beneficial, candidates with exposure to rail disciplines such as p-way, electrification, signalling, or general civils will also be considered.

The role will suit someone from a main contractor background (NWR or HS2 experience preferred), with strong subcontract management exposure and a developing understanding of NEC Option A or E contracts.

    Key Responsibilities:
·Assist in the commercial management of NEC Option A/E rail civils projects
·Prepare and maintain CVRs, cost reports, and weekly commercial reporting
·Support procurement of subcontract packages and maintain subcontract accounts
·Manage subcontractor performance, valuations, and payment applications
·Assist with early warnings, compensation events, and contract administration
·Support cost forecasting, forecasting accuracy, and value reconciliation
·Attend site and project meetings as required
·Liaise with operational teams to support delivery and commercial awareness
·Maintain accurate commercial records and support risk management processes

    Essential Requirements:
·1-2 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role (or Assistant QS level)
·Experience working for a main contractor on rail projects
    ·Exposure to NEC contracts (Option A and/or E ideally)
·Strong understanding of subcontract management and CVRs
·Experience in procurement and basic commercial reporting
·Strong communication and willingness to develop within rail infrastructure

    Desirable Requirements:
·Experience in rail civils, earthworks, drainage, or structures
·Exposure to NWR, HS2, or similar infrastructure environments
·Knowledge of p-way, electrification, or signalling packages
·Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or similar
·Ambition to progress towards QS / Senior QS level

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a long-term rail framework with a strong pipeline of secured work and genuine development into a fully autonomous Quantity Surveyor role within a supportive commercial team.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send your CV to Brooke Stell at Carrington West or call (phone number removed) for a confidential discussion
