How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our client, a leading consultancy in the civil engineering sector, is currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join their team on a contract basis in one of their offices located in Birmingham, Bristol, or Reading. The role involves taking a leading position in delivering a varied range of schemes including both small highway improvements and large residential and commercial developments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design and deliver access junctions including roundabouts, signalised junctions, ghost-island right turns, and simple priority junctions
    Work on a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects ranging from small-scale developments to projects involving up to 5000 residential units with supporting infrastructure
    Provide technical expertise and support while ensuring designs are compliant with current legislation, best practice, and council policies
    Mentor junior team members and provide support on project delivery
    Manage tasks to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget

    Job Requirements

    Degree in Civil Engineering or a related qualification
    Experience in designing access junctions from concept development through to detailed design
    Strong knowledge of designing LTN1/20 compliant cycling infrastructure schemes
    Experience in 3D modelling and drainage design, including delivering Section 278 detailed designs
    Knowledge of local authority and National Highways processes and requirements
    Familiarity with national design standards and best practice (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN1/20, NRSWA)
    Experience with adoption agreements for roads and drainage, including Section 278, Section 38, and Section 104 agreements
    Proficient in software packages such as AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Vehicle Tracking, KeyLINES/SIGN/POST, and Flow
    Strong communication skills and the ability to produce technical reports
    Ability to mentor junior staff

    Public realm design and active travel/cycling infrastructure improvement schemes
    Major highways design and utilities coordination
    Site monitoring or supervision roles
    Producing fee proposals and bids
