How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Engineering & Design Manager (HV Infrastructure)

    Sheffield

    Are you an experienced Engineering Manager or Principal Electrical Engineer with a strong background in HV/MV/LV design and grid infrastructure projects?

    Do you want to lead a high-performing engineering team delivering complex substation, cable and overhead line projects across the UK energy sector?

    This company is a leading independent engineering and infrastructure business operating within the high voltage grid connection and utilities sector. They specialise in the design and delivery of complex electrical infrastructure projects supporting the UK's energy transition, including renewable generation, industrial connections and grid reinforcement schemes.

    In this role, you will take full responsibility for leading the engineering and design function across a portfolio of HV infrastructure projects. You will manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers, ensuring all technical outputs meet client requirements, industry standards and regulatory compliance.

    You will act as the technical authority for the business, supporting bids, design reviews, stakeholder engagement and project delivery from concept through to energisation.

    The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HV electrical design (typically up to 132kV or above), proven leadership experience and a strong understanding of UK DNO/TSO standards and grid connection processes.

    This is a key strategic role within a growing organisation, offering the opportunity to shape engineering standards, influence technical direction and play a major role in future business growth.

    The Role:

    Leading and managing the engineering and design team across HV infrastructure projects
    Overseeing substation, cable and overhead line design activities
    Reviewing and approving engineering deliverables and technical submissions
    Acting as technical authority for clients, DNOs, TSOs and internal stakeholders
    Supporting tenders, bids and project development activities
    Driving engineering standards, processes and continuous improvement
    Managing resource allocation and team development
    The Person:

    Experience in HV electrical design within utilities, ICPs, EPCs or consultancy environments
    Strong knowledge of substation, protection and grid connection design principles
    Proven leadership or engineering management experience
    Understanding of UK DNO/TSO standards and compliance requirements
    Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
    Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
