How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our Water consultancy client is seeking a Civil Design Engineer to be based out of their Farringdon office on a permanent basis with hybrid working.

    You will be contributing to the delivery of high‑quality infrastructure and treatment projects across water and wastewater. You'll support the delivery of projects from feasibility through to detailed design, working alongside experienced engineers and multi‑disciplinary teams. You'll be involved in a wide variety of civil and structural design activities and will have clear opportunities to develop your technical capability, project experience and progress towards chartership.

    You'll work closely with Project Managers, Design Managers and Technical Leads to help deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.

    Key responsibilities

    Deliver civil engineering design from feasibility through to detailed design
    Prepare supporting design calculations, technical notes and reports
    Coordinate and manage the preparation of technical drawings
    Support delivery of projects to agreed programme, budget and quality targets
    Take responsibility for smaller projects or defined elements of larger schemes
    Assist with day‑to‑day financial and commercial management of engineering commissions
    Apply relevant British Standards, water industry standards and GHD procedures
    Work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary design teams
    Share knowledge and support the development of junior team members

    Skills/experience/qualifications

    You'll be an early‑career civil engineer with a passion for water and infrastructure projects and a desire to grow your technical and professional capabilities within a supportive consultancy environment.
    2+ years' experience in civil engineering design, ideally within water and/or industrial sectors
    Exposure to projects such as water and wastewater treatment works, pipelines, pumping stations or related infrastructure
    Experience preparing and checking high‑quality calculations, drawings and technical documentation
    Working knowledge of British Standards and water industry standards
    Familiarity with industry‑standard analysis and design software
    Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team‑focused approach
    Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
    Working towards (or interested in attaining) Chartered Engineer (ICE) status
