How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Do you want to apply your knowledge to vital local projects while enjoying a healthy work–life balance and supportive team environment? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

    About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a varied and impactful portfolio of technical services projects across the borough.

    You’ll be responsible for:

Managing and developing the team and associated budgets
Leading projects covering car parking, drainage, bridges, land management and related infrastructure across the borough
Advising on flood risk and working closely with partners such as the Environment Agency and Kent County Council
Overseeing winter maintenance, bridge inspections, CCTV operations and electric vehicle charging infrastructure
You’ll work from our Kings Hill offices, with flexibility to work remotely and regular opportunities to be out on site across the borough.

    Why Join Us?
Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council is based in Kings Hill – a modern, well-connected location in one of Kent’s most desirable boroughs. With excellent transport links, countryside on your doorstep, and vibrant local communities, it’s the perfect blend of professional opportunity and lifestyle appeal.

At TMBC, you’ll find a positive, collaborative culture where people genuinely care about their work, their community, and each other. We take pride in our public service mission and invest in our people through strong training and career development support.

While previous managerial experience is an advantage, we’re open to applications from candidates who are ready to develop their leadership skills with our support.

Your technical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and collaborative approach will be key to delivering safe, sustainable, and high-quality services and infrastructure for our residents.
