How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our client is a well-known and reputable HGV Transport Company in Oldbury. Currently they are looking for an experienced HGV Workshop Manager to join their busy depot. You will be someone who started off on tools and worked their way up into an HGV fleet management. Applicants from the dealerships are welcome to apply.

    Working hours: Mon to Fri 6am to 4:30pm

    Job Purpose

    The HGV Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) maintenance workshop. This includes managing technicians, ensuring vehicle compliance and roadworthiness, controlling maintenance costs, maintaining health and safety standards, and maximizing fleet availability.

    Key Responsibilities

    Workshop Operations

    Manage the day-to-day running of the HGV workshop.

    Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs.

    Ensure all vehicles are maintained to legal and company standards.

    Monitor workshop productivity and efficiency.

    Minimize vehicle downtime and maximize fleet availability.

    Team Management

    * Lead, supervise, and develop workshop technicians, mechanics, and support staff.

    * Conduct performance reviews and provide training where required.

    * Manage staffing levels, shift patterns, and resource allocation.

    * Promote a positive safety culture and professional working environment.

    Compliance & Safety

    Ensure compliance with all relevant transport legislation and industry regulations.

    Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

    Prepare for and support regulatory inspections and audits.

    Ensure workshop adherence to health and safety policies and risk assessments.

    Monitor compliance with DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements.

    Fleet Maintenance

    * Oversee preventative maintenance programs.

    * Manage MOT preparation and testing schedules.

    * Authorize repairs and maintenance expenditure.

    * Investigate vehicle defects, breakdowns, and recurring maintenance issues.

    * Coordinate roadside assistance and recovery services when required.

    Budget & Cost Control

    Manage workshop budgets and control maintenance costs.

    Monitor labour utilization and parts expenditure.

    Negotiate with suppliers and external contractors.

    Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as vehicle uptime, workshop efficiency, and maintenance costs.

    Parts & Inventory Management

    * Ensure effective stock control of parts, tools, and consumables.

    * Manage supplier relationships and procurement activities.

    * Reduce waste and optimize inventory levels.

    Required Qualifications & Experience

    Proven experience managing an HGV, commercial vehicle, or fleet maintenance workshop.

    Strong technical knowledge of HGV maintenance and repair.

    Understanding of DVSA regulations, MOT standards, and fleet compliance requirements.

    Experience leading and developing workshop teams.

    Knowledge of health and safety legislation.

    Relevant engineering, vehicle maintenance, or transport qualifications desirable.

    Possession of an HGV licence may be advantageous.
