How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Freelance Groundworks Supervisor
    Start Date: 06/07/2026
    Duration: 6 Months

    Day rate: £280-£320 DOE

    SOS Group are recruiting for an experienced Groundworks Supervisor to join a major groundworks and civil engineering project on a 6-month contract commencing on 6th July 2026.

    Working alongside the site management team, you will be responsible for supervising daily operations, coordinating subcontractors and direct labour, and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    * Supervise day-to-day site operations across the groundworks package.

    * Coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.

    * Ensure works are completed safely and in accordance with RAMS.

    * Monitor productivity and programme performance.

    * Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks and daily task planning.

    * Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout construction activities.

    * Liaise with Site Engineers, Site Managers and client representatives.

    * Identify and resolve site issues to maintain progress.

    * Promote a positive health, safety and environmental culture on site.

    Requirements

    * Previous experience supervising groundworks and civil engineering projects.

    * Strong understanding of drainage, foundations, roads, external works and associated infrastructure.

    * SSSTS or SMSTS certification.

    * CSCS Card essential.

    * First Aid at Work preferred.

    * Excellent communication and leadership skills.

    * Ability to drive programme and maintain high standards of workmanship and safety.

    This role would suit an experienced Supervisor, General Foreman or Working Foreman with a strong background in groundworks and civil engineering projects.
