How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Cadent Gas Ltd

Lead hands‑on delivery of mechanical and maintenance projects across the network

As our Project Technician, you’ll play a key role in delivering a range of mechanical and maintenance activities that support the safe and efficient operation of Cadent’s network. This isn’t just a technical role — it’s about leading work packages, supporting teams and driving high standards of safety, quality and performance.

This is a permanent role, where you’ll lead and support the delivery of both cyclical and ad‑hoc maintenance activities across Mechanical & Calibration Services. From pre‑heater remediation and fabrication through to painting and specialist maintenance tasks, you’ll take ownership of delivery while acting as a subject matter expert within your area.

You’ll also play a key role in supporting project delivery, procurement activity and continuous improvement initiatives, while coaching and developing others across the team.

    Why you’ll love this role:
Project & Maintenance Delivery – Lead the delivery of mechanical and maintenance work packages, ensuring safe, timely and high‑quality outputs.
Hands‑On Leadership – Manage and support operatives, providing guidance, coaching and day‑to‑day leadership.
Technical Expertise – Act as a subject matter expert across mechanical, fabrication and maintenance activities.
Safety & Compliance – Ensure all work is delivered in line with SCO procedures, CDM requirements and relevant standards.
Continuous Improvement – Identify opportunities to improve processes, performance and ways of working.
Stakeholder Engagement – Work closely with internal teams, suppliers and customers to support delivery and resolve issues.
Performance & Reporting – Track KPIs, maintain accurate records and support reporting requirements. What you’ll bring:
Mechanical Experience – Experience working within mechanical, maintenance or operational environments.
Team Leadership – Ability to lead, support and develop teams in a hands‑on delivery environment.
Technical Knowledge – Understanding of engineering standards, procedures and safe systems of work.
Safety‑Critical Awareness – Strong knowledge of safety practices, including Safe Control of Operations (SCO).
Problem‑Solving Skills – Ability to manage issues, make decisions and deliver solutions in real time.
Communication Skills – Strong ability to engage with stakeholders and work collaboratively across teams.
Organisation & Planning – Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks and deliver against deadlines. Qualifications:
Mechanical Engineering NVQ (or equivalent qualification)
    SCO authorisations (or working towards)
IOSH or equivalent safety qualification (desirable)
    Full UK driving licence

Apply now to take ownership of critical maintenance delivery and help ensure the safe, efficient operation of Cadent’s network.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th July.
