How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Quantity Surveyor - Infrastructure Project
    Location: Birmingham
    Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + Car Allowance/Company Car + Comprehensive Benefits Package

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join one of the UK's leading main contractors, delivering a critical package of works on a major infrastructure project.

Based in Birmingham, you will play a key commercial role in the delivery of a series of high-value headhouse structures that will form part of the projects critical operational infrastructure. These complex buildings will house essential systems including ventilation, fire suppression, telecommunications, power and other key equipment to ensure the safe operation of the site once it becomes fully operational.

This role offers the chance to work on one of the UK's most prestigious infrastructure programmes while managing significant subcontract packages and supporting the commercial success of a major project.

    The Role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for leading the commercial management of key work packages, providing commercial support to project delivery teams and ensuring robust cost control throughout the project lifecycle.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Managing the commercial delivery of major subcontract packages
Leading procurement activities and subcontract negotiations
Producing accurate cost reports, forecasts and CVRs
Managing change control, compensation events and variations
    Monitoring project risks and opportunities
Preparing, submitting and agreeing interim valuations
Managing subcontractor accounts through to final account settlement
Providing commercial leadership and support to project teams
Mentoring and supporting junior commercial staff where required
Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders
    About You
We are keen to speak with Senior Quantity Surveyors who have experience working for main contractors on major construction or infrastructure projects.

Experience delivering industrial buildings, logistics hubs, distribution centres, utility facilities, plant buildings or other technically complex structures would be highly advantageous.

    You will ideally possess:

Proven experience operating as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment
Strong commercial and NEC contractual knowledge
Experience managing significant subcontract packages and project costs
Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
Ability to lead commercial activities on complex projects
    Relevant construction-related qualification (HNC/HND/Degree)
Experience managing MEP packages would be particularly beneficial due to the specialist nature of the headhouse structures, which incorporate extensive mechanical, electrical, fire suppression, ventilation and telecommunications systems.

    What's On Offer?

    Salary of £60,000 - £70,000
    Company car or car allowance
    Attractive pension scheme
    Private healthcare
25 days holiday plus bank holidays + option to purchase an extra 10 days per year
Excellent training and career development opportunities
Clear pathway towards Commercial Manager level
Opportunity to contribute to one of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure projects
This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to play a key role on a nationally significant project while developing their career with a market-leading contractor.
