How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Field Service Engineer

    Location: Manchester & North West Region

    Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 + Overtime (£55,000+) + Van

    Overview

    We are recruiting for a Field Service Engineer covering Manchester and the wider North West region.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to join a growing business specialising in the installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of industrial equipment across a varied customer base.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned maintenance, fault finding, breakdown response and repair work on customer sites, ensuring equipment remains safe, reliable and operational.

    This role would suit somebody from a field service, industrial maintenance, pumps, motors, generators, rotating equipment or mechanical maintenance background who enjoys problem-solving and working independently.

    Key Responsibilities

    Attend customer sites to carry out servicing, maintenance and repair work.
    Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and carry out effective repairs.
    Complete preventative maintenance inspections and planned service visits.
    Install, commission and test equipment.
    Produce accurate service reports and maintenance records.
    Provide technical support and advice to customers.
    Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company and site health & safety procedures.
    Maintain company vehicle, tools and equipment.
    Build and maintain positive customer relationships.
    Participate in an on-call rota when required.

    Requirements

    Strong mechanical engineering background.
    Proven fault-finding and diagnostic experience.
    Experience working on industrial mechanical equipment.
    Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
    Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
    Full UK Driving Licence.
    Flexible approach to travel across the North West region.
    Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
    Desirable Qualifications & Experience

    NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
    City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering qualification.
    18th Edition Electrical Qualification.
    IPAF.
    PASMA.
    CompEx (advantageous).
    CSCS Card (advantageous).
    Experience using digital reporting systems and maintenance software.
    Package

    £38,000 - £45,000 basic salary depending on experience.
