How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Have you managed a major rolling stock depot and understand what it takes to keep fleets operating efficiently?

Do you want to influence the long-term operation and commercial model of one of the UK's most significant rail programmes?

Salary: £80,940.00 to £(phone number removed) (depending on experience)
Location: Birmingham, in office 3 days per week, remainder from home
Job title: Senior Project Manager Rolling Stock Depots
    Closing date: 29th June

I am supporting HS2 in the search for a Senior Project Manager for Rolling Stock Depots. This is a unique opportunity to sit at the heart of railway operations, acting as the proxy train owner and ensuring that both the rolling stock and depot strategy remain operationally viable for decades to come.

This is not a traditional project delivery role. Instead, you'll provide leadership across operational, commercial and contractual aspects of the depot and rolling stock strategy, working with multiple stakeholders to ensure the railway can be operated and maintained effectively both at launch and long into the future.

    Essential Requirements

Extensive understanding of railway operations and how rolling stock and depots interact.
Experience managing a large operational depot with maintenance capability.
Strong knowledge of Train Service Agreements, leasing arrangements and maintenance contracts.
Understanding of rolling stock rotation, fleet management and maintenance requirements.
Experience working for a Train Operating Company, ROSCO, infrastructure owner or similar organisation.
Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and influence senior decision-makers.
Commercial and contractual awareness alongside strong operational expertise.
Experience delivering or introducing new depots, fleets or major operational change programmes.
Strong communication and data-driven decision-making skills.
    Desirable Requirements

Experience managing multiple fleets or large-scale maintenance facilities.
Background in Head of Operations, Head of Depots, Operational Interface or similar leadership roles.
Experience with operational readiness or fleet introduction programmes.
Knowledge of depot design and future-proofing strategies.
Understanding of franchising, bid teams or railway operating models.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the operational future of HS2. Working within a small specialist team, you'll influence how trains are maintained, operated and commercialised, ensuring the railway remains flexible and sustainable for the next 60 to 100 years.

If you have a strong operational background and understand the complexities of rolling stock, depots and train service agreements, I would love to hear from you.
