How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Quantity Surveyor
    North West England

    Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client's Area 10 Highways contract. This role offers the chance to work across the North West highway network, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver key infrastructure projects that enhance and maintain one of the UK's busiest motorway and trunk road networks.

Our client works in partnership with National Highways to ensure the safe and efficient operation of critical road infrastructure, delivering maintenance, improvement, and renewal schemes that support safer and more reliable journeys for road users.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role within the commercial team, supporting the successful delivery of schemes under the NEC Term Service Contract (TSC) framework. You will be responsible for driving commercial performance, managing risk, maximising value, and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and to the highest standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial professional looking to take ownership of key projects while supporting the development of junior team members.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

    Key Responsibilities

    Commercial Management

    * Lead the commercial management of highways and infrastructure schemes from inception through to completion.

    * Provide commercial support to operational teams to ensure successful project delivery.

    Cost & Financial Control

    * Prepare and manage estimates, cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).

    * Monitor project expenditure and commercial performance to maximise profitability and value.

    NEC Contract Administration

    * Manage NEC3/NEC4 contract processes, including Early Warnings, Compensation Events, change control, and contractual communications.

    * Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and commercial governance requirements.

    Valuations & Final Accounts

    * Prepare and manage valuations, variations, and final account negotiations with both clients and supply chain partners.

    * Ensure timely and accurate commercial reporting and account closure.

    Procurement & Supply Chain Management

    * Support procurement activities, tender evaluations, subcontract negotiations, and supply chain performance management.

    * Build and maintain strong relationships with key supply chain partners.

    Stakeholder Management

    * Work collaboratively with National Highways, operational teams, designers, and supply chain partners.

    * Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all project stakeholders.

    Governance, Risk & Compliance

    * Ensure adherence to financial controls, governance procedures, and HSEQ requirements.

    What's on Offer?

Our client is committed to supporting career development and creating an environment where employees can thrive. In return, you can expect:

    * Competitive salary with annual review opportunities

    * Company car or car allowance

    * Clear career progression within a leading infrastructure organisation

    * Comprehensive training and professional development opportunities

    * Mentorship and leadership development programmes

    * Generous pension contributions

    * Minimum 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional leave

    * Flexible benefits package including cycle-to-work schemes, gym memberships, and retail discounts

    * Two paid volunteering days each year

    * A supportive and collaborative working environment

    About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

    * Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC3 and NEC4 contract management

    * Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying role within highways, civil engineering, infrastructure, or related sectors

    * Experience managing commercial activities across the full project lifecycle

    * Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, change management, and contract compliance

    * Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across clients, internal teams, and supply chain partners

    * Strong commercial acumen and problem-solving ability

    * Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
