How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Role: Family Support Worker - Family Help Team

    Contract: Temp

    Grade: L6

Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Family Support Worker - Family Help Team on behalf of Luton Borough Council within their Children Families and Education Service department.

As a Family Support Worker within the Family Help service at Luton Borough Council, you will play a key role in supporting children, young people, and families to improve their wellbeing, resilience, and overall family functioning. You will work directly with families to complete holistic assessments and co-produce tailored family support plans that address identified needs. This will include regular direct work with children and families, both in the community and within service users' homes, ensuring that support is delivered in a meaningful, consistent, and relationship-based way. A key aspect of the role is managing risk appropriately and ensuring timely interventions to prevent escalation of need.

Working in a multi-agency environment, you will co-produce and co-deliver support alongside partner agencies, based on agreed working arrangements with families. You will develop and deliver targeted interventions to support families with a range of issues, including parenting skills, building self-confidence, managing challenging behaviour, supporting parental mental health, and promoting positive child development. You will also develop specialist knowledge in a defined area of family support to enhance service delivery.

You will ensure that the voice of the child is central to all assessments, planning, and interventions, and is clearly heard and acted upon throughout your work.

The role involves organising and chairing multi-agency meetings, acting as Lead Professional where appropriate, and coordinating support for children, young people, and adults who require skilled intervention to prevent deterioration in their wellbeing.

You will contribute to the delivery of targeted group and individual programmes such as Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities, and evidence-based parenting programmes, supporting families to build resilience and achieve positive change.
You will work closely with colleagues across statutory and voluntary sector services to monitor and review progress, ensuring that family needs are regularly assessed and that interventions are adjusted where necessary. This includes evaluating improvements in family resilience and parental capacity to provide safe and supportive care.
Safeguarding is central to this role. You will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and protection of children, young people, and vulnerable adults in line with Council safeguarding policies and procedures.
In addition, you will support managers within the Family Wellbeing Service in delivering operational objectives, plans, and performance targets, contributing to the continuous improvement of services for families in Luton.
Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.

    About You

You will have demonstrable experience of working with children, young people, and families within a social care, education, or health-related setting, with a clear understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable families.
You will be confident working in partnership with a range of professionals across different agencies, as well as effectively engaging mothers, fathers, carers, children, and young people to agree and deliver planned, outcome-focused interventions.
You will be skilled in assessing needs in collaboration with families, using this information to develop clear, concise, and effective plans, targets, and reports that support both the wellbeing and protection of children.
You will be able to manage and organise your own workload effectively, using your initiative to prioritise tasks and respond flexibly to changing service demands.
With appropriate guidance, you will contribute to decision-making processes where child protection and family support are central, demonstrating sound judgement and a commitment to safeguarding.
You will have a strong understanding of equality and diversity, including the impact of discrimination on individuals and service delivery, and how this can influence the experiences of the families you work with.
You will demonstrate knowledge of the effects of deprivation, trauma, and abuse on the wellbeing and development of children, alongside a sound understanding of child and human development.
You will ideally hold a relevant qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in Child Care or an equivalent qualification, supported by training relevant to working with children and families.
The role requires flexibility, including the ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary, and to travel effectively across the borough and beyond as required.
You must be able to communicate clearly and confidently with members of the public, providing accurate, supportive, and effective advice in fluent spoken English
