How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Passive Fire Surveyor – Compartmentation & Fire Doors (Self-Employed)
    Location: London & Essex
    Day Rate: £250 – £260 Per Day + Mileage & Expenses Covered

    The Opportunity

    This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-employed passive fire surveyor to join a fast-growing passive fire protection contractor on an ongoing basis. The business is expanding rapidly and is looking for a talented surveyor to play a key role in supporting their project delivery across London and Essex, with mileage and expenses covered on top of the day rate.

    If you are technically strong, commercially aware and looking for ongoing, well-paid survey work with a business that is going places, this is the role for you.

    The Role

    As Passive Fire Surveyor, your primary focus will be conducting detailed compartmentation and fire door surveys across a variety of live environments in London and Essex. You will support the wider project team with survey delivery, reporting and compliance, whilst your previous management experience will be a valuable asset in helping coordinate works and communicate effectively with site teams and clients.

    This is an ongoing self-employed opportunity, ideal for a surveyor looking for consistent, well-supported work with a growing contractor.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Conduct detailed compartmentation surveys including fire stopping, cavity barriers, penetration seals and passive fire systems

    * Carry out thorough fire door surveys including compliance checks, gap tolerances, ironmongery, intumescent seals and signage

    * Produce clear, accurate and client-ready survey reports using digital reporting systems

    * Support Project Managers and the wider delivery team with survey programmes and site coordination

    * Identify defects and non-compliance issues in line with current regulations and standards

    * Liaise professionally with clients, site teams and contract managers

    * Work independently across multiple live sites across London and Essex

    * Apply previous management experience to support team coordination and project delivery where required

    What We're Looking For

    * Proven experience conducting passive fire surveys with a focus on compartmentation and fire doors

    * Strong technical knowledge of fire stopping, compartmentation, fire door compliance and passive fire standards

    * Experience producing detailed survey reports using digital reporting tools

    * Previous management or supervisory experience — highly desirable

    * Knowledge of FIRAS, BM TRADA or IFC standards — desirable

    * FDIS or equivalent fire door inspection qualification — desirable

    * CSCS Card — desirable

    * Full UK Driving Licence and own vehicle — required

    What's On Offer

    * £250 – £260 per day

    * Mileage and expenses covered

    * Ongoing self-employed contract with a fast-growing contractor

    * Varied pipeline across London and Essex

    * Consistent, well-supported workload with long-term potential
