How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Help shape the future of housing in our district.

Are you passionate about housing and looking for an opportunity to make a real difference?

We're looking for a Housing Strategy and Supply Officer to help deliver one of the council's most important priorities – ensuring local people have access to the homes they need, both now and in the future.

This is a rewarding and varied role at the heart of housing delivery, growth and place-making. You'll help shape housing strategy, influence the delivery of affordable and specialist housing, and work with a wide range of partners to bring forward new housing opportunities that support thriving communities.

While the role is dedicated to supporting one council area, you'll be part of a shared Strategic Housing Team serving three councils. This provides a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced housing professionals, share knowledge and best practice, collaborate on cross-boundary issues and gain exposure to a wider range of projects and challenges than many similar roles can offer.

This role is particularly suited to someone already working within housing, planning, development, regeneration or a related field who wants to broaden their experience and move into a more strategic role. You'll develop valuable skills in partnership working, housing delivery, policy development, investment planning and stakeholder engagement, providing an excellent foundation for future career progression across the housing, development and local government sectors.

    What you'll be doing

    * Working with housing associations, developers, Homes England and internal council services to support the delivery of affordable and specialist housing.

    * Influencing housing outcomes through planning and development processes, including affordable housing negotiations and housing-related planning consultations.

    * Using evidence, research and data to understand local housing needs and support strategic decision-making.

    * Contributing to the development and delivery of housing strategies, policies and action plans.

    * Identifying opportunities to secure investment, develop partnerships and accelerate housing delivery.

    * Monitoring housing supply and delivery, helping ensure the council achieves its housing ambitions and strategic priorities.

    Why this role matters

The work you do will have a visible and lasting impact on local communities. From helping young people access their first home, to supporting older residents to live independently, to increasing the supply of affordable housing, your work will directly contribute to improving people's lives and creating sustainable communities.

Few roles offer the opportunity to combine strategic thinking, partnership working, housing delivery and community impact in the same way.

    Why join us?

We recognise that great people work best when they have flexibility and trust. The nature of this role allows for a high degree of agile and remote working, alongside attendance at meetings, partnership events, site visits and office locations when required. We are committed to supporting work-life balance and will consider flexible working arrangements, including part-time hours.

You'll also benefit from being part of a collaborative and supportive team environment, with opportunities for professional development, learning and career progression.

    What we're looking for

    You'll be someone who:

    * Has experience in housing, planning, development, regeneration or a related discipline.

    * Understands the opportunities and challenges associated with housing delivery and growth.

    * Enjoys working collaboratively and building effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.

    * Has strong analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.

    * Can communicate effectively and influence positive outcomes.

    * Is motivated by the opportunity to make a tangible difference to communities and residents.

If you're looking for a role where you can influence housing delivery, shape future growth and see the real-world impact of your work, we'd love to hear from you.

BENEFITS: We offer excellent terms and conditions of employment including:

    * Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, enjoy peace of mind with generous employer contributions to a scheme designed to provide long-term financial security after your working life
