How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Tameside Council is continuing to invest in and strengthen its Children's Services, making this an exciting time to join the organisation. As the service continues to build and grow, they are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Practitioner to support the delivery of high-quality services to children and families. This opportunity is ideal for experienced Social Workers looking to step into a more senior role and further develop their leadership, mentoring and practice development skills within a supportive environment.

    Role Overview

As a Senior Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting the Team Manager and driving high standards of practice across the team. Alongside managing a caseload of more complex children and families, you will provide guidance, support and reflective supervision to colleagues, helping to develop practice and contribute to the service improvement agenda.

    Key Responsibilities

Hold and manage a caseload involving children and families with more complex needs and risks, ensuring timely and effective interventions.

Provide support during visits, meetings and planning processes involving children, young people and their families.

Work alongside the Team Manager to lead the team and support the delivery of the service improvement plan.

Offer reflective and group supervision to colleagues, promoting learning, professional curiosity and good practice.

Model high-quality social work practice and provide mentoring, teaching and development opportunities to less experienced staff.

Support colleagues with complex case discussions, decision-making and risk analysis.

Contribute to improving performance and the team's data set, ensuring accurate recording and compliance with statutory timescales.

Provide leadership and operational support when the Team Manager is unavailable, undertaking delegated responsibilities as required.

Foster a positive team culture focused on continuous learning, collaboration and achieving the best outcomes for children.

    Benefits

Competitive pay rate of £40 per hour.

Opportunity to step into a leadership role and develop management skills.

Supportive management team committed to staff development.

Involvement in a service undergoing positive growth and transformation.

Opportunities to influence practice improvement and shape service delivery.

Exposure to a varied and rewarding caseload.

A collaborative team environment that values reflective practice and continuous learning.

    Requirements

Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).

    Registration with Social Work England.

Significant post-qualified experience within Children's Services.

Experience of managing complex cases involving safeguarding and child protection concerns.

Ability to provide mentoring, coaching and reflective supervision to colleagues.

Strong assessment, analysis and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication and multi-agency working abilities.

Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and families through high-quality practice.

    Interested?

If you are an experienced Social Worker ready to take the next step in your career and make a meaningful impact within an ambitious and improving service, we'd love to hear from you.
