How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Role

We are recruiting an Electrical Design Engineer on behalf of a world-leading, independently owned technology business based in Bar Hill, Cambridgeshire. Financially stable and expanding globally, this is a business that invests in its people and offers a genuinely challenging and rewarding environment for engineers who want to make a real impact.

You will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems and components across a range of projects, working closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team to ensure all designs meet project requirements, safety standards, and industry regulations. This is a hands-on role with broad scope — from initial design through to testing, documentation, and production support — and would suit an experienced electrical design engineer who thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.

    Main responsibilities

    * Design and develop electrical systems and circuits, including power distribution, control panels, motor drives, and communication interfaces

    * Create detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using CAD software

    * Specify and select electrical components including sensors, actuators, power supplies, relays, and circuit breakers

    * Help build first-off systems and demonstrate good practical skills for production and service teams to follow

    * Work closely with mechanical and software engineers to integrate electrical designs into complete systems

    * Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of electrical components and systems

    * Perform electrical testing and analysis to validate designs, including signal integrity, noise, and EMI testing

    * Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations including UL, CE, and ISO standards

    * Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and assembly instructions

    * Support the production team during assembly and testing, providing guidance and troubleshooting assistance

    * Identify opportunities to improve existing product designs, focusing on performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency

    * Travel to customer sites when required

    Skills/experience

    Essential:

    * Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

    * Five or more years of experience in electrical design engineering

    * Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD

    * Strong understanding of electrical principles, power systems, motor controls, and PLC integration

    * Knowledge of industrial communication protocols and experience with control systems design

    * Familiarity with safety and regulatory standards for industrial machinery including UL, CE, and IEC

    * Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail

    * Good communication skills and a team-oriented approach

    * Ability to manage multiple projects and work to tight deadlines

    Desirable:

    * Experience in industrial machinery, printing technology, or a related field

    Salary & working hours

    * Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum, plus healthcare options and annual company bonus

    * Hours: Daytime hours, Monday to Friday

    * Occasional travel to customer sites required
