How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Electronics fault finding engineer

    Location: Cambridge area Job type: Permanent, full time Salary: £30,000 - £42,000 per annum, dependent on experience

    The role

    We are recruiting an Electronics Fault Finding Engineer on behalf of a well-established and innovative technology business based in the Cambridge area. This is a key role within a busy repairs team, responsible for undertaking repairs of customer returns and providing advanced diagnostic capability to support the resolution of complex and novel faults.

    You will bring a strong background in electronics fault finding and repair, ideally gained within a repair or service centre environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business at an exciting time, where your technical expertise will have real impact across the team and beyond. Please note that due to the nature of the work undertaken by this team, candidates must be willing to undergo UK SC security clearance. The business will support the successful candidate through this process.

    Main responsibilities

    * Undertake repairs of customer equipment, including advanced fault finding at component and system level using schematics, test equipment, and analytical techniques

    * Diagnose complex, intermittent, and non-standard faults not resolvable through standard repair processes

    * Validate repairs through appropriate test and verification methodologies

    * Investigate and document novel faults, including root cause identification

    * Support and guide the wider team in fault diagnosis and repair techniques

    * Develop, refine, and maintain technical repair procedures and diagnostic methods

    * Support procurement, setup, and optimisation of specialist repair equipment, including BGA rework systems

    * Liaise with product development teams to provide feedback on product performance

    * Support technical reviews, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement activities

    * Deliver training and knowledge transfer to internal and external staff

    * Maintain technical documentation, fault databases, and repair records

    * Ensure compliance with regulatory, quality, and health and safety requirements

    Skills/experience

    Essential:

    * Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering or a related field

    * Strong experience in electronics fault finding to component level

    * Ability to interpret schematics, circuit diagrams, and technical documentation

    * Advanced use of diagnostic equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and multi-meters

    * Experience diagnosing complex, intermittent, or novel faults

    * Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

    * Ability to define and improve technical processes and repair methodologies

    * Experience supporting or mentoring technical staff

    * High attention to detail and a structured approach to fault analysis

    Desirable:

    * Experience with BGA rework and advanced PCB repair techniques

    * Knowledge of RF technologies

    * Experience specifying, procuring, or setting up specialist repair equipment

    * Experience contributing to design-for-repair or engineering feedback loops

    * Familiarity with ERP and repair tracking systems

    * IPC certification (IPC-7711/7721 or equivalent)

    Salary & working hours

    * Salary: £30,000 - £42,000 per annum, dependent on experience

    * Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday
