How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone from a consultancy background to move into the public sector environment and play a key role in shaping development proposals across the region.

You'll be responsible for assessing planning applications from a highways and transportation perspective, reviewing developer submissions and providing technical advice to planning colleagues and stakeholders. The role offers a varied workload, ranging from smaller residential developments through to larger strategic schemes.

    - Managing a caseload of planning applications and providing highways and transport recommendations
    - Reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans submitted by developers
    - Assessing access arrangements, visibility splays, parking provision and highway impacts
    - Supporting pre-application discussions and agreeing transport assessment requirements
    - Preparing technical reports and committee information for planning decisions
    - Identifying opportunities for developer contributions through Section 106 agreements
    - Undertaking site visits where required across the local authority area

To succeed in this role, you will need:
    - Experience working within Transport Planning, ideally in a consultancy environment
    - Experience preparing or reviewing Transport Assessments and Transport Statements
    - A good understanding of development planning and highways considerations
    - Strong report writing and stakeholder management skills
    - A minimum of 2-3 years' relevant industry experience
    - Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively

    Why this contract stands out:
    - Flexible hybrid working arrangement
    - Opportunity to gain valuable local authority experience
    - Exposure to a wide range of planning applications and development proposals
    - Immediate workload where you can add value from day one
    - Strong likelihood of contract extension
    - Supportive team environment with a mix of minor and major applications

If you're a Transport Planner looking to broaden your experience within development management and want a contract where you can make an immediate impact, we'd love to hear from you.
