How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Birmingham (Hybrid - 3-4 days on-site)
    📅 6-Month Contract

    Hays are working in partnership with a local council to recruit an experienced Practice Development Manager on an interim basis. This role will support the Finance Directorate by leading learning and development initiatives and driving improvements in finance practice across the organisation.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual who is passionate about continuous improvement, capability building, and embedding best practice within a complex public sector environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Design and implement approaches that drive continuous improvement in financial management practices.
    Support managers and teams to embed new policies, procedures, standards, and ways of working.
    Develop and maintain practical guidance, including playbooks, toolkits, and learning resources to finance staff and managers.
    Enhance the quality and consistency of finance induction, onboarding, CPD, and performance development processes.
    Work closely with stakeholders to identify barriers to adoption and deliver targeted support to improve performance and practice.
    Support the transformation of current practices to align with the finance operating model and wider organisational improvement priorities.About You:

    Proven background in finance and Learning & Development (L&D).
    Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage across all levels.
    Experience supporting practice improvement, change, and capability development.
    Ability to translate strategic priorities into practical tools and guidance.
    Confident working in a fast-paced, complex organisation with multiple stakeholders.This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact, shaping finance capability and improving service delivery across a key public sector organisation.
