Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 per annum, plus mileage
Hours: Permanent, Full-Time
Location: Derby (hybrid, with regular travel to services)
Setting: Adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism
Overview:
Compass Associates is proud to partner with a leading care provider in their search for a Family Liaison Officer to join their Specialist Support Team. This is a newly created role, designed to strengthen the relationship between families and services during what can be a challenging and emotional transition. The successful candidate will work alongside a learning disability nurse, PBS practitioners, and a psychological practitioner, playing a vital role in ensuring families feel heard and supported, while protecting the wellbeing and independence of the adults the organisation supports. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation that values both its families and its staff.
The Candidate:
The Family Liaison Officer will act as an independent and diplomatic point of contact for families, particularly during periods of high emotion such as admissions, transitions, and ongoing complex family relationships. The role requires resilience, strong communication skills, and the confidence to deliver difficult messages with compassion. Candidates with a background in social work, care management, or family liaison within a comparable sector are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Family Liaison Officer, you will play a central role in managing relationships between families and services. Your role will include:
Family Support
- Holding regular meetings with families, either on Teams or in person, to listen to concerns, provide reassurance, and reduce pressure on operational teams.
Transition Management
- Supporting families through the admission and transition process, including contribution to family information packs and helping families understand what to expect.
Mediation and Resolution
- Acting as an independent voice between families and services, resolving concerns before they escalate into complaints, and ensuring outcomes remain focused on the best interests of the individual.
Advocacy for Independence
- Supporting families to understand the legal rights of the adults in their care, including decision-making capacity, and respectfully challenging requests that may not align with the individual's best interests.
Diary and Priority Management
- Managing a varied caseload of families with differing levels of need, balancing ongoing relationships with emerging priorities.
Essential Requirements:
- We are seeking an experienced and resilient professional with the following:
- A background in social work, care management, or a senior operational role within adult social care, with experience managing relationships with families in emotionally charged situations.
- Strong understanding of adult rights, decision-making capacity, and safeguarding within a care setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust quickly and manage difficult conversations sensitively.
- Resilience and the ability to manage multiple complex family relationships at once, without compromising on quality or wellbeing.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience as a Family Liaison Officer or in a comparable mediation role within health, social care, or a related sector.
- Familiarity with services supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.
Salary & Benefits:
As a Family Liaison Officer with our client, you will benefit from a supportive and rewarding work environment, including:
- Competitive salary of £30,000 to £35,000 per annum
- Mileage paid
- Hybrid working, with autonomy over your own diary
- Training & Development: ongoing support and access to career progression opportunities
