How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About Vulcain Engineering

Vulcain Engineering Ltd, our UK business, is well positioned within the UK Nuclear industry. We provide the flexibility our clients demand by working at our customers’ sites in the UK and Europe as well as carrying out work remotely on their behalf. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of organisational support to key projects.

Vulcain Engineering was founded in the mid-2000s to specialise in energy and environment projects. Our knowledge of the energy and environment sector means we can support our customers at all stages of the engineering-procurement-construction-commissioning (EPCC) project lifecycle.

With operations in 16 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering expertise in the form of high added value engineering services.

The Position: Cost Controller - Nuclear

Vulcain Engineering UK are seeking a Cost Controller to join our project controls team in Bristol, supporting both internal and client-facing engineering projects.

This role will be responsible for maintaining project cost controls, monitoring budgets, producing cost reports and forecasts, and supporting project delivery teams with financial and commercial analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, finance teams, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely reporting of project performance.

The role offers an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded individual to develop their career within project controls while supporting major infrastructure and nuclear programmes across the UK.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Cost Controller will include:

    • Monitor and maintain project budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts.
    • Produce regular cost reports, dashboards, and performance updates for project teams and senior management.
    • Analyse cost variances and identify risks, trends, and opportunities.
    • Support project managers with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
    • Develop and maintain Excel-based reporting tools and trackers.
    • Assist with change control processes and assess the cost impact of project changes.
    • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of project cost data.
    • Support month-end reporting and financial review processes.
    • Work collaboratively with project, engineering, commercial, and finance teams.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project controls processes and reporting.

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

    • Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and advanced data analysis.
    • Experience working with large datasets and producing management reports.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
    • Ability to integrate well within a team environment while maintaining attention to detail.
    • Experience in cost control, project controls, finance, commercial analysis, or a similar discipline.
    • Background in a corporate, engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, or project-based environment would be advantageous.
    • Understanding of Excel Slicers & VBA would be beneficial but is not essential..
    • French language skills would be beneficial but not required
    • Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).

    Remuneration & Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.

We also offer a benefits package, both standard and enhanced, which is designed to support your wellbeing, development, and financial future, including:

    • 25 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays, with the ability to swap bank holidays for cultural or religious celebrations
    • Matched Pension Scheme
    • Enhanced Maternity, Paternity, Adoption and Neonatal Care Leave
    • Employee Referral Scheme
