How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    LAB. Are supporting a specialist Mechanical & Electrical Building Services contractor based in East Yorkshire, delivering HVAC, M&E, and building services projects across various sectors throughout the UK. They extensive design, project management, and installation capabilities, that provides turnkey solutions from concept through to completion, with a strong reputation for delivering quality projects safely, on time, and within budget.     The Role:

    This is far more than a traditional Contracts Manager position. The successful candidate will become the operational second-in-command to the Managing Director, playing a key role in the day-to-day running of the business whilst helping to shape its future growth.

    Working within a small but expanding team, this role offers genuine long-term progression and the opportunity to become an integral part of the company's leadership structure.

    This is a hands-on role requiring a strong mechanical HVAC background combined with project delivery, operational management and leadership experience.

    The successful candidate will take ownership of projects from enquiry through to completion, supporting both the commercial and operational aspects of the business.

    They will combine strong technical HVAC expertise with commercial acumen and a proactive approach to business growth, helping to strengthen client relationships, generate additional revenue and contribute to the overall growth strategy of the business.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Managing HVAC and mechanical projects from inception through to completion
    • Overseeing project planning, delivery, resources and programme management
    • Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, suppliers and subcontractors
    • Supporting the Managing Director with operational and strategic decisions
    • Providing technical guidance and support to engineers and site teams
    • Monitoring project performance, profitability and commercial outcomes
    • Assisting with quotations, estimating and project cost management
    • Identifying and securing new business opportunities
    • Developing client relationships
    • Identifying opportunities for additional works and contract growth
    • Contributing to business planning and growth initiatives
    • Helping develop systems and processes to support expansion

    Essential Requirements

    • Extensive experience within HVAC and mechanical services
    • Strong technical understanding of commercial HVAC systems and plant
    • Proven experience delivering mechanical projects from start to finish
    • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
    • Experience managing engineers, subcontractors and suppliers
    • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of profitability
    • Ability to identify opportunities for business development and growth
    • Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
    • Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to contribute to business growth

    Desirable Requirements

    • Previous experience as a Mechanical Contracts Manager, Senior HVAC Project Manager, Operations Manager or Senior Mechanical Engineer
    • Estimating and pricing experience
    • Health & Safety qualifications
    • Experience working within a growing SME environment
