How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

An independent property consultancy in Cornwall is looking to appoint an experienced Building Surveyor to support continued growth across its private client offering.

This is an excellent opportunity for a surveyor who enjoys spending the majority of their time undertaking pre-acquisition surveys and providing detailed advice on a diverse range of residential properties. The workload is heavily focused on quality over quantity, with instructions including substantial family homes, coastal residences, converted properties, period buildings and architect-designed homes.

The successful candidate will benefit from a steady flow of survey work, autonomy in managing their diary and the chance to work closely with a well-established client base throughout Cornwall and the wider South West.

    Responsibilities

Carrying out residential property inspections across a varied portfolio of homes

Preparing Level 2 and Level 3 survey reports

Assessing building condition and identifying defects, risks and maintenance requirements

Providing clear and practical advice to purchasers and property owners

Liaising directly with clients to discuss survey findings

Managing instructions efficiently from appointment through to report completion

Maintaining high professional and technical standards

Contributing to the ongoing success of a growing surveying team

    Requirements

MRICS qualified or working towards chartership

Previous experience undertaking residential surveys independently

Sound understanding of traditional and modern construction methods

    Strong diagnostic and reporting skills

Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical clients

Organised and self-motivated approach to workload management

    Full UK driving licence

    Salary & Benefits

    £50,000 - £65,000 depending on experience

    Pension contribution

    Professional fees covered

    Flexible working arrangements

Structured career development and progression opportunities

    Supportive and collaborative working environment

This role would suit a surveyor seeking a position centred around residential surveying, offering a high-quality workload, flexibility and the opportunity to work with some of the South West's most interesting housing stock.
