This job role is required to support City Highways in undertaking their daily highway maintenance and development works.
Duties:
* Undertake a range of activities relating to the construction and maintenance of highway and drainage features such as roads, footpaths and drains to the required specification.
* Lay to precise line and level natural and pre-cast paving materials such as slabs, kerbs, blocks, granite setts, etc. Undertake associated highway construction works including bituminous and concrete carriageway construction and the installation / maintenance of drainage features.
* Undertake general manual/labouring tasks involved in the construction, maintenance and repair of highways, sewers, and watercourses.
* Undertake ‘Banksman’ duties by supervising excavators and vehicles.
* Operate powered tools, minor plant, and machines.
* Drive, clean and perform routine maintenance (e.g., oil, water, tyres, body checks etc.) of vehicles and tractors with simple attachments.
* Liaise with residents, pedestrians, and car drivers to explain works and the traffic/pedestrian arrangements. In residential areas this may involve moving cars and discussing/agreeing access arrangements.
* Train and develop lesser skilled operatives, including trainees and apprentices.
* Support wider service needs as required by undertaking duties outside normal role e.g., activities associated with Roadworking/Drainage/ Logistics/Traffic Management.
* Work on the out of hours standby rota throughout the year (typically every 4-5 weeks for a one-week period).
Experience

Extensive knowledge of construction/highway works construction specifications, materials, compaction, and workmanship requirements.
Holder of the following qualifications or committed to obtaining them within 6 months of commencement in post:
* New Roads & Streetworks Act accreditation (NRSWA/ Streetworks Ticket).
* CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Health & Safety Certificate/ Card.
* Holder of all or any of the following qualifications:
* Relevant plant operator certification/ cards, e.g., 180/ 360-degree excavator, dumper, roller, forklift etc.
* Full valid UK driving licence.
* Ability to drive LGV vehicles.
* Relevant Health & Safety Training Certification.
* Accredited First Aider.
* Good understanding of the important principles of:

£15.08 - £16.36 per hour
