How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Planning Engineer - Civil Engineering

    Location: Ipswich (Head Office)
    Employment Type: Full Time
    Sector: Civil Engineering / Infrastructure

We are currently seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to join a well-established civil engineering business based at its Head Office in Ipswich.

This is a key role within the pre-construction and delivery support function, working closely with tendering teams and operational staff to develop efficient, buildable, and commercially viable construction programmes across a range of civil engineering schemes.

The successful candidate will bring strong site-based civil engineering experience, allowing them to translate practical construction knowledge into effective planning solutions and delivery strategies.

    Role Overview

In this position, you will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and advising on construction methodologies and programmes during both tender and pre-contract stages.

You will play an important role in ensuring that schemes are planned efficiently, risks are considered early, and alternative delivery methods are explored to achieve the best possible outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

Review tender documentation in detail and assess the most effective construction methodologies

Develop build strategies and delivery options based on site constraints and engineering requirements

Work closely with the tender team to explore alternative approaches and value engineering opportunities

Assess subcontracted works with a focus on buildability and compliance with tender requirements

Contribute to tender submissions, including supporting planning documentation and methodology statements

Ensure programmes and planning outputs reflect project-specific constraints and requirements

Provide expert input on construction methods, sequencing, and problem-solving solutions

Support the development of accurate and logical construction programmes

Maintain awareness of industry developments, innovations, and relevant legislation

    About You

We are looking for someone with strong practical experience in civil engineering environments who can confidently apply site knowledge to planning and programme development.

    You should have:

A background in civil engineering with significant site-based experience

Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering

    Strong communication and collaboration skills

Ability to work effectively as part of a pre-construction and tendering team

Experience using planning software such as Asta Powerproject or Microsoft Project (desirable, not essential)

A proactive, problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail

Ability to translate technical construction knowledge into clear planning outputs

Training and development can be provided for the right individual where required.

    What's on Offer

The company offers a supportive working environment with strong opportunities for career progression and professional development, including:

    Competitive salary package

    Hybrid working arrangements

Company pension scheme with up to 8% employer contribution

    Life assurance (4x annual salary)

25 days holiday plus bank holidays (with option to purchase additional leave)

    Extensive training and development programmes

    Cycle to Work scheme

    Employee Assistance Programme

    Employee benefits platform

    Free on-site parking

Regular company events, social activities, and charity initiatives

Early finish every Friday as part of a flexible working culture
