How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Carpentry Teacher – SEN College - Croydon - ASAP Start - Long Term

We are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Carpentry Teacher to join a specialist SEN College in Croydon. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled vocational teacher or experienced carpenter to support secondary-aged students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in developing practical skills, confidence, independence, and future employability.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging theory and workshop-based lessons, supporting learners through practical assessments and helping them develop the technical knowledge, behaviours, and industry standards required within Carpentry and Joinery. A strong understanding of behaviour management is essential, as you will be working with students who may present a range of additional needs including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and Moderate Learning Difficulties.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Deliver engaging practical and theory-based teaching across Carpentry and Joinery programmes.

    * Plan lessons, schemes of work, and learning resources tailored to individual learner needs.

    * Support learners through practical assessments, tutorials, progress reviews, and target setting.

    * Create a safe, structured, and inclusive workshop environment that promotes positive learning behaviours.

    * Maintain high standards of workshop organisation, health and safety, and industry practice.

    * Differentiate learning activities to meet a range of SEND needs and abilities.

    * Carry out learner interviews, initial assessments, and ongoing progress monitoring.

    * Provide constructive feedback to support learner achievement and personal development.

    * Promote professional standards, employability skills, and safe working practices.

    * Support curriculum development, quality improvement initiatives, and internal quality assurance processes.

    * Liaise with support staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to ensure positive outcomes for learners.

    * Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and wider college staff to manage behaviour effectively and maximise engagement.

    Essential Requirements

    * Level 3 qualification (or above) in Carpentry & Joinery or a related construction discipline.

    * Industry experience within Site Carpentry and/or Bench Joinery.

    * Experience teaching or training young people within education, apprenticeships, training, or workplace settings.

    * Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with challenging learners.

    * Excellent workshop management, communication, and organisational skills.

    * Understanding of health and safety requirements and current industry best practice.

    * Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

    Desirable Requirements

    * Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, QTLS, AET, or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.

    * Previous experience working within an SEN school, college, alternative provision, or specialist setting.

    * Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional learning needs.

    * Experience supporting learners through vocational qualifications and practical assessments.

    What We Offer

    * Immediate start available.

    * A supportive and welcoming SEN environment.

    * Opportunity to make a genuine impact on young people's futures.

    * Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.

    * Competitive salary and long-term career prospects.

If you are a passionate Carpentry Teacher or experienced Carpentry professional with strong behaviour management skills and a commitment to supporting young people with additional needs, we would love to hear from you.
