How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Civil Design Engineer
    Bristol

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineer or Senior Civil Engineer to join a highly regarded, employee-owned Consultancy in Bristol. Known for delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions, the Consultancy continues to grow its presence across the South West, working on a diverse range of projects that combine technical excellence with a genuine commitment to creating better places and communities.

The Bristol office has established an excellent reputation for delivering both new-build and refurbishment projects across a variety of sectors, including healthcare, education, commercial, residential and public sector developments. With a strong pipeline of work secured, the team is involved in a broad range of schemes ranging from major regeneration projects and university developments through to complex redevelopment and infrastructure-led projects, creating a varied and rewarding workload.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of civil engineering projects from initial feasibility through to detailed design and construction. Working closely with clients, architects, planners and multidisciplinary design teams, you will contribute to the design of highways, drainage and infrastructure solutions that support high-quality development across the region.

This is a hands-on role that offers genuine responsibility from an early stage. Depending on your experience, you will take ownership of projects, attend client and design team meetings, liaise with statutory authorities and support the successful delivery of schemes through planning and technical approval processes. You will be encouraged to develop your project management and leadership skills while continuing to strengthen your technical expertise.

The workload includes the design of Sustainable Drainage Systems, highways and external works infrastructure for a broad range of developments. You will have the opportunity to work on projects supporting healthcare providers, education clients and private sector developers, helping deliver solutions that balance technical performance, sustainability and commercial objectives.

Candidates should have experience within a Civil Engineering Consultancy environment and possess a good understanding of drainage and highway design. Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Causeway Flow or similar software packages would be highly beneficial, alongside knowledge of SuDS design, adoptable highways and relevant design standards. Experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments or working with SAB requirements would be advantageous but is not essential.

The role would suit an ambitious Civil Engineer who is progressing towards professional qualification with the ICE or a similar institution and is looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and collaborative environment. Equally important is a positive attitude, strong communication skills and a genuine desire to contribute to both team and project success.

In return, you will join an employee-owned Consultancy that places real value on its people. Flexible hybrid working, structured professional development, excellent Chartership support and clear opportunities for progression are all on offer, alongside the chance to work on some of the South West's most interesting and technically engaging projects.

For more information about this role, please contact Sam at Calibre or click apply.
