How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About us

Our purpose is simple: to save lives at sea. 24 hours a day, every day, RNLI lifesavers are ready to launch to the rescue, and our volunteers are tirelessly raising the funds we need to support them.

We’re looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer to join our brilliant Business Intelligence Team and help deliver reporting through a series of strategic projects. The BI team is temporarily expanding to work on a strategic Digital Transformation project, migrating from our existing ERP estate into a new composable architecture and ways of working. We are interested in hearing from people who would be excited to work on projects implementing new systems and leading the design of the new reporting landscape.

This role is all about ensuring our implementation projects run successfully and working closely with our customers to ensure that the right data is available to them as easily as possible. The desire for insight is unstoppable at the RNLI, and the role will include representing the BI Team in Project meetings, selling the enterprise reporting strategy to our customers, gathering requirements and designing reporting products with great user experience baked in at all levels.

You will work with project teams to understand the scope and impact on reporting and to produce achievable delivery plans for those products. The role will work with others in the department to ensure well-structured dimensional data models are delivered in Databricks via a robust semantic/gold layer, and to use these models to deliver the Power BI reporting to meet our customers’ reporting requirements. The role will collaborate closely with others in the team to maintain the award-winning BI products that our people rely on.

    Your Role

As a Senior Business Intelligence Developer, you’ll help the RNLI transform the way we consume insight by:

    - Representing the BI Team in project meetings, selling the enterprise reporting strategy and ensuring we have the requirements and data to make the reporting a success
    - Turning the needs of customers into well designed reporting products that help users understand their data and drive action
    - Understanding the scope and impact of each project and ensuring there are sensible plans for reporting and delivery
    - Working with other experts in the RNLI’s data teams to ensure we consolidate data and deliver a robust reporting layer that will meet the organisation’s reporting and analytical needs now, and in the future
    - Making sure we have high-quality, structured data flowing from source systems to our reporting presentation layer, so we can deliver accurate and timely insight to those that need it
    - Ensuring that data quality and security are considered throughout any systems change in the RNLI, from system design and implementation right through to the insight we deliver

    About You

We are looking for someone with advanced data modelling and SQL developer experience who can gather and interpret complex reporting requirements and multiple business processes to deliver a robust suite of reporting products delivered through Power BI.

You will be able to work in an agile manner to deliver benefits to our customers as soon as possible, according to project priorities. You will enjoy working with other data professionals and others on the project delivery teams to ensure that dependencies across teams are understood and communicated, so that data can flow from consumption to presentation layers in a robust and efficient manner.

You will have extensive experience and working knowledge of SSMS or Azure Databricks, dimensional data modelling, Kimball methodology techniques and building data structures for consumption and presentation via Power BI.

You will be confident to represent the needs of the team on the projects and lead the scoping, planning, design and delivery of data products.

You will be used to working to project timescales and using project delivery tools such as Jira and Azure DevOps.

    You’ll be:

    - Someone who understands how data should be consumed and structured throughout each level of ingestion and transformation to a presentation layer to deliver business intelligence reporting in Power BI
    - Someone with vast experience of creating robust data warehouse models to meet complex reporting and analytical needs
    - Someone who enjoys working in a complex project environment
    - Someone who is confident working with data from ERP systems, ideally with experience of working with D365 and Workday
    - Someone who is proficient in writing robust SQL code, designing dimensional data models which are reusable and working within Databricks
    - Someone with experience of data lineage testing to ensure data quality throughout the ETL process and can check their work as they develop
    - Someone who wants to share their experience with their team and help us to grow and do great things together.
    - Someone who wants to do all of that and in a context that really makes a difference!

So, as a Senior Business Intelligence Developer, you will have the analytical and modelling skills to really make a difference, supporting us in giving people the insight they need to save lives.

To find out if this could be the role for you, please apply via the button shown.
