How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Are you a passionate and ambitious Social Worker looking to join a local authority that continues to invest in frontline practice? Croydon Council is seeking Social Workers and Senior Social Workers to join its dedicated Assessment Service, where you will have the opportunity to make meaningful interventions with children and families at the earliest stage of involvement.

This is an exciting opportunity for practitioners who enjoy fast-paced assessment work and want to focus on delivering high-quality assessments without carrying long-term safeguarding cases. With a competitive salary, a generous welcome payment, relocation support, and sponsorship opportunities, Croydon offers an excellent package for both UK-based and international candidates looking to advance their careers.

    About Croydon Council

Croydon is committed to delivering excellent services for children and families through relationship-based practice and strong professional support. The council has continued to invest in its workforce, creating an environment where social workers can develop their careers while making a genuine difference to the lives of children.

A key feature of Croydon's structure is that its Assessment and Safeguarding Services remain separate teams. Unlike many authorities that have moved towards a Family Help model, Croydon has retained a dedicated Assessment Service. This means practitioners can focus on completing robust and timely assessments, intervention planning, and decision-making at the front door without holding longer-term safeguarding and child protection cases.

This structure allows social workers to specialise in assessment work, maintain clear service pathways, and deliver focused interventions that support children and families from the outset.

    Key Responsibilities

Undertake Child and Family Assessments in line with statutory requirements.

Complete comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning.

Manage referrals received through Children's Social Care and undertake timely interventions.

Carry out Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries where required.

Work directly with children and families to identify strengths, risks, and support needs.

Develop outcome-focused plans and recommendations for ongoing services.

Liaise effectively with partner agencies, including education, health, police, and early help services.

Present cases and recommendations at legal planning meetings, strategy discussions, and multi-agency forums.

Ensure high-quality case recording, assessment writing, and statutory compliance.

Promote safeguarding and ensure children's voices remain central to all decision-making.

    Candidate Requirements

Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification.

Registered with the Social Work England.

Experience within Assessment, Safeguarding, Child Protection, CIN, or Front Door services.

    Strong assessment and analytical skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced statutory environment.

    Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.

Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and families.

    For Senior Social Worker applicants:

    Demonstrable experience managing complex cases.

Ability to support and mentor less experienced practitioners.

Strong understanding of risk management, court work, and safeguarding processes.
