How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Overview

    Reports to: PPM Supervisor
    Department: Engineering Team
    Working hours: 42.5 hours per week
    Probation period: 6 months
    Salary: £25,000 – £30,000, depending on experience and location

    About the Role

    We are looking for an Assistant Engineer to support the delivery of specialist engineering services across ventilation hygiene, kitchen extraction cleaning, fire damper testing and fire compartment remediation.

    This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with a Lead Engineer, assisting with planned works, compliance tasks and site-based service delivery. The role will suit someone practical, reliable and willing to learn, with the flexibility to travel and adapt as business needs change.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Assist the Lead Engineer with kitchen extraction cleaning in line with TR19 Grease standards.

    * Support ventilation cleaning works in accordance with TR19 standards.

    * Assist with annual fire damper drop testing to BS9999 standards.

    * Support fire compartment remediation works in line with the Regulatory Reform Order 2005 and the Fire Safety Act 2021.

    * Follow company engineering standards, site procedures and health and safety requirements at all times.

    * Complete additional training where required to support the wider needs of the business.

    * Maintain a professional approach when working on customer sites.

    * Support the team in delivering a high-quality, consistent and compliant service.

    The Ideal Candidate

    Essential:

    * Full UK driving licence.

    * Willingness to travel as required.

    * Flexible approach to working schedules and changing business needs.

    * Practical, reliable and keen to learn.

    * Comfortable working in a hands-on engineering environment.

    Desirable:

    * Security clearances preferred not essential

    * Previous experience in fire damper drop testing to BS9999 standards.

    * Previous experience in fire stopping or fire compartment remediation.

    * Previous experience in air hygiene services to TR19 or equivalent standards.

    * Experience working on customer sites within a compliance, engineering or facilities environment.
