How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Mechanical Design Engineer

Design for Manufacture | Product Development | Engineering Innovation

If you're a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys seeing your designs move from concept to production, this could be exactly the kind of role you've been looking for.

We're working with a well-established UK engineering and manufacturing business that develops highly engineered products for demanding industries. They're looking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer to their growing team, someone who enjoys solving practical engineering challenges and designing products that are not only innovative but also manufacturable.

This is a role where you'll be involved throughout the product lifecycle, working closely with manufacturing, production and wider engineering teams to ensure designs are robust, cost-effective and ready for real-world deployment.

    What You'll Be Doing

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in developing new products and improving existing designs, balancing performance, quality and manufacturability.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    *

Creating detailed 3D designs, assemblies and manufacturing drawings

    *

Designing components and products with a strong focus on Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)

    *

Supporting products from initial concept through to production release

    *

Working closely with manufacturing and production teams to optimise designs and improve efficiency

    *

Participating in design reviews, prototyping, testing and product validation activities

    *

Identifying opportunities to improve product performance, reliability and cost

    *

Producing and maintaining engineering documentation and technical reports

    *

Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions

The Kind of Mechanical Design Engineer Who Will Thrive Here

You're someone who enjoys turning ideas into physical products.

You understand that great engineering isn't just about creating clever designs — it's about creating designs that can be manufactured efficiently, assembled reliably and perform consistently in the field.

You enjoy being hands-on, working closely with production teams, and seeing your designs progress from CAD models to finished products. You're naturally curious, proactive and always looking for ways to improve both products and processes.

    What You'll Bring

    *

Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

    *

Experience in mechanical product design within a manufacturing environment

    *

Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or similar)

    *

Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles

    *

Experience creating detailed engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation

    *

Understanding of fabrication, machining, sheet metal, plastics or electro-mechanical assemblies

    *

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

    *

Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering team

    Why This Role Stands Out

This is an opportunity to join a business where engineering remains at the heart of what they do. You'll work on a variety of interesting projects, have visibility across the full product lifecycle, and play a direct role in bringing new products to market.

If you're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer position where you can combine creativity, practical engineering and Design for Manufacture expertise, this is a role worth exploring
