How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The East Surrey School's Speech and Language Therapy Team have a number of exciting new vacancies for Speech and Language Therapy Assistants (SLTAs) due to internal promotion and 'Experts at Hand' funding (Every Child Achieving and Thriving), which will allow us to enhance our offer to children at SEN support.

    We are a large and supportive team and can offer you strong line management, peer observations, joint working and a thorough induction and in-house training programme.

    The starting salary for these positions is £26,447 per annum based on 36 hours per week, across 42 weeks per year, pro-rata to £28,546. The role is term-time, plus an additional 15 days per year. Part time applications will also be considered.

    The office bases for these roles are in Reigate and Weybridge. You will work in a number of mainstream schools as well as in a specialist school or centre.

    The School-Aged Speech and Language Therapy Service is part of Surrey County Council's support for children with additional needs and disabilities, working collaboratively in the Inclusion and Additional Needs team in Surrey's Children, Families and Learning Directorate with other teams like Educational Psychology and specialist teachers.

    We aim to deliver the right support at the right time through assessment and intervention, and equipping families and professionals with the skills and resources to work together to help and support children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs. We offer universal, targeted and specialist support for children, families and the school workforce, and work with children and young people with Education, Health & Care Plans and those at Special Education Needs support.

    Working under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist, your role will be to play a pivotal part in supporting children to achieve the outcomes agreed by a Therapist, in conjunction with the school and family, through a range of activities which will include:

    Working individually with a child or young person within a school
    Modelling strategies to class teachers and teaching assistants
    Working with a small group
    Creating resources for the therapy team
    Giving both verbal and written feedback to school staff and parents
    Keeping accurate written case notesYour Application

    In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

    At least 2 years experience of working with children and young people, either in mainstream or specialist schools and centres
    Experience of working with a speech and language therapy team member
    Evidence of use of IT systems such as Word, Excel, Outlook & Teams
    Evidence of working flexibly and independentlySurrey has both urban and rural areas and Speech and Language Therapy staff will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel to meet the demands of the role. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.

    An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.
