How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Engineer / Section Engineer

    West Sussex | Permanent | £50,000 - £60,000 + Package (DOE) | Salary Negotiable for the Right Candidate

    Red Sky Personnel are currently representing a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering major infrastructure works within a highly regulated live operational environment.

    Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured projects, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Engineer / Section Engineer to support the delivery of complex civil engineering packages across a major infrastructure scheme in the South East.

    This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established contractor delivering critical infrastructure works including drainage, ducting, reinforced concrete structures, utilities, highways and associated heavy civils packages.

    The Role

    As a Senior Engineer / Section Engineer, you will play a key role in the technical and operational delivery of major civil engineering works. Working closely with the Project Manager, Site Agents and delivery teams, you will be responsible for ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately, on programme and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.

    You will provide engineering leadership on site, manage subcontractors and engineering teams, oversee quality assurance processes and support the successful delivery of complex infrastructure packages within a fast-paced live environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Managing and coordinating engineering activities across multiple work fronts

    Setting out and overseeing construction works in accordance with design drawings and specifications

    Supporting the delivery of earthworks, drainage, ducting, reinforced concrete and infrastructure packages

    Managing subcontractors and ensuring works are delivered safely and efficiently

    Producing, reviewing and managing QA documentation, ITPs and as-built records

    Resolving technical queries and coordinating with design and commercial teams

    Monitoring progress against programme and reporting updates to senior management

    Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements

    Supporting temporary works coordination and construction planning activities

    Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and site teams where required

    Project Overview

    The project forms part of a major infrastructure improvement programme being delivered within a live operational environment.

    Works include:

    Construction of new infrastructure and access routes

    Pavement and hardstanding construction works

    Drainage installation and associated civils works

    Utility diversions and underground services

    Ducting and service infrastructure

    Reinforced concrete structures and foundations

    Earthworks and groundworks packages

    Surfacing and associated infrastructure installations

    The works require high levels of planning, coordination, quality assurance and health & safety compliance due to the operational nature of the environment.

    Requirements

    Previous experience working as a Senior Engineer, Section Engineer or Engineer on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects

    Strong background in heavy civils, groundworks, drainage, highways, infrastructure or reinforced concrete works

    Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating site delivery activities

    Strong technical engineering, setting out and quality assurance capability

    Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced project environment

    Experience producing and managing engineering documentation and QA records

    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

    Essential Qualifications

    Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline

    SMSTS

    Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC)

    Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS)

    First Aid at Work

    Highways, infrastructure or major project experience

    NEC contract awareness
