How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Waking Night Children’s Residential Support Worker

    Looking for a waking night role in children’s residential care where you can provide calm, consistent support and help keep young people safe overnight?

    We are recruiting for a Waking Night Children’s Residential Support Worker to join a child-focused residential home in Slough.

    You will be supporting young people aged 11 to 17 in a structured children’s home environment. The role is about being reliable, alert and calm throughout the night, making sure young people feel safe and supported.

    This is a temp-to-perm role, with a genuine route into a permanent position once both sides are happy the fit is right.

    The role

    As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of young people during the night.

    You will help maintain a calm home environment, respond to young people when needed, complete checks, follow care plans and make sure accurate records are completed before handover.

    This role would suit someone who is patient, emotionally resilient and comfortable working independently while still being part of a wider team.

    Main duties

    * Support children and young people in a residential children’s home overnight.

    * Complete regular welfare checks in line with care plans and risk assessments.

    * Respond calmly to young people who may need emotional support during the night.

    * Maintain a safe, clean and settled home environment.

    * Follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns clearly.

    * Complete night logs, handovers and incident reports where required.

    * Support morning routines where needed.

    * Work closely with the day team, senior staff and management.

    What we’re looking for

    This role could suit someone with experience in care, support work, waking nights, residential care, children’s services, mental health, SEN, supported living or youth work.

    You do not need to have children’s residential experience, but you do need to be calm, reliable and confident working overnight in a safeguarding-focused environment.

    Requirements

    * Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable people.

    * Able to stay awake, alert and professional throughout the night.

    * Good written and verbal communication skills.

    * Calm and confident in challenging situations.

    * Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.

    * Able to complete written records to a good standard.

    * Enhanced DBS check required, or willingness to complete one.

    Desirable

    * Previous experience in children’s residential care.

    * Waking night experience.

    * Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, or willingness to work towards it.

    * Experience with trauma-informed care, EBD, complex needs or challenging behaviour.

    What’s on offer

    * £13.55 per hour.

    * Temp-to-perm opportunity.

    * Full-time hours.

    * Induction and ongoing training.

    * Supportive management team.

    * Opportunity to progress within children’s residential care.

    Sponsorship is not available for this role. You must already have the right to work in the UK.
