How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Student Support Officer - Corby
    Start Date: September 2026 | Contract: Full-Time | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
Pay: £95-£100 per day (dependent on experience)

Are you a graduate looking to gain valuable school-based experience before progressing into teacher training?
Do you have a passion for supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning?

Tradewind Recruitment is working with a welcoming secondary school in Corby that is seeking a dedicated Student Support Officer to join their pastoral team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a future career in teaching and looking to gain meaningful experience within a secondary school before progressing onto a PGCE, SCITT, School Direct, or other teacher training pathway.

As a Student Support Officer, you will play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom, helping them overcome social, emotional, behavioural, and attendance-related barriers to learning. Working closely with pastoral leaders, teaching staff, and senior leaders, you will gain valuable insight into school life while developing the skills needed for a successful career in education.

    What You'll Be Doing:

Supporting students with emotional, behavioural, attendance, or wellbeing challenges on a 1:1 and small-group basis

Building positive and trusting relationships that encourage engagement, resilience, and self-confidence

Working alongside pastoral leaders, teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement targeted interventions

Supporting behaviour management and restorative approaches across the school

Monitoring attendance and punctuality and supporting strategies to improve engagement

Liaising with parents and carers where appropriate to support positive outcomes

Contributing to safeguarding procedures and promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment

    What We're Looking For:

A degree in any subject area (essential)

A genuine interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education

Experience working with young people through mentoring, tutoring, coaching, youth work, volunteering, or similar settings

    Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

A calm, empathetic, and professional approach when supporting students

The ability to remain resilient and adaptable in a busy school environment

    What You'll Receive:

    A full-time role with a clear temp-to-perm pathway

Competitive daily rates of £95-£100 with weekly pay

Valuable school-based experience to strengthen future teacher training applications

Exposure to pastoral, safeguarding, behaviour, and classroom support responsibilities

Access to ongoing CPD and professional development through The National College

Dedicated support from an experienced Tradewind Recruitment consultant

    A Pathway into Teaching

This role has been designed for graduates who are considering a career in education and want to develop their experience before undertaking formal teacher training. You will gain first-hand experience of working with young people, supporting learning, and contributing to whole-school pastoral provision, providing an excellent foundation for future PGCE, SCITT, or salaried teacher training applications.

If you're a graduate looking to take the first step towards a career in teaching while making a genuine difference to young people's lives, we'd love to hear from you.
