How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Process Safety Engineer

    Location - Remote / Home Based

    Are you an experienced Process Safety Engineer with a strong understanding of COMAH regulations and major accident hazards?

    Do you enjoy working across multiple sites, influencing safety culture and supporting high-risk operations?

    What will you be doing?

    You'll provide process safety and risk management support across multiple high-hazard sites, helping to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practice.
    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Supporting the development and maintenance of COMAH/MACR Safety Reports for relevant sites and assets
    • Applying risk management principles and ensuring hazards are reduced to ALARP levels
    • Facilitating and participating in assessments including:
    oHAZOPs, HAZIDs and Design Reviews
    oHuman Reliability Assessments (HRA)
    oHazardous Area Classification and DSEAR Assessments
    oHazard and Effect Registers (HERS) and Bowtie studies
    oOccupied Building Risk Assessments (OBRA) and Credible Fire Scenario Assessments
    oSIL and LOPA assessments
    • Conducting HSSE and quality inspections and audits to ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements
    • Supporting incident investigations and identifying opportunities for improvement
    • Providing process safety input into major engineering and operational projects
    • Delivering training and guidance to managers and operational teams
    • Monitoring corrective actions and reporting on HSSE performance trends
    • Supporting tender evaluations from an HSSEQ perspective
    • Participating in industry forums to share best practice and promote continual improvement

    Where will you be doing it?

    You'll be joining a specialist organisation responsible for managing and maintaining critical storage and distribution infrastructure supporting essential operations across the UK and overseas. Operating within a highly regulated environment, the organisation is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental performance and operational excellence.

    What you'll need:

    • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline
    • At least 5 years' experience in a senior health and safety or process safety role within a high-hazard industry
    • Extensive knowledge of process safety management and major accident hazard regulations, particularly COMAH requirements
    • Experience applying risk assessment techniques such as HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, SIL, Hazardous Area Classification and Design Reviews
    • Understanding of Process Safety Leadership Group (PSLG) principles
    • Knowledge of applying ALARP principles within major hazard industries
    • Strong technical report writing and analytical skills
    • Experience conducting audits and inspections
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards would be advantageous
    • NEBOSH qualifications would be beneficial
    • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word
    • Full UK driving licence, preferably clean

    This role requires regular travel throughout England and Scotland, including overnight stays away from home. There may also be occasional overseas travel.
