How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Join our dedicated high-voltage maintenance team, where you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of critical infrastructure. Working alongside the Senior Authorised Person (SAP), you’ll tackle hands-on fault finding, maintenance, and repairs of HV and LV equipment. Covering about 90 dynamic sites across Thames Valley and Home counties, this role offers variety, technical challenges, and the chance to make a tangible impact every day.

    What you’ll be doing as a High Voltage Technician

    As a High Voltage Technician, you'll take on the critical responsibility of maintaining and repairing high-voltage equipment across various Thames Water sites. This role ensures the smooth operation of essential infrastructure.
    Inspect and maintain HV and primary LV equipment to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
    Diagnose and resolve technical faults promptly, keeping accurate compliance records.
    Supervise contractors and team members during maintenance, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
    Undertake SAP (Senior Authorised Person) training and uphold strict electrical safety rules.
    Keep tools, equipment, and systems in top operational condition.
    Travel extensively to multiple sites, providing technical support and overseeing SCADA system operations.
    Base location: Due to the nature of this role, you can be based from a number of our sites depending on your location. Including: Basingstoke STW - RG24 8LL / Mogden STW - TW7 7LW / Oxford STW - OX4 4XU.

    Working pattern: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday (07:30 am to 5:00 pm). Opportunities for overtime may be available.

    Requirements: Electrical qualifications, fault-finding expertise, and a valid UK driving licence.

    All PPE, tools, a company van and a fuel card are provided.

    What you should bring to the role

    Formal electrical trade qualifications or equivalent industrial/utility experience in HV systems.
    A mechanical background and being skilled in electrical work would be beneficial.
    Proficiency in electrical maintenance, fault finding, and understanding of electrical safety rules.
    18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification (or 17th Edition with a willingness to upgrade).
    AP15 High Voltage qualification (ideal) or willingness to train.
    A great team player with excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision, is essential.
    Basic IT proficiency for operational tasks and record-keeping.
    Full, valid UK driving licence to travel across the Thames Water sites.
