Who are we?
JANAYE is a South London-based interior design studio redefining luxury through playfulness and personal storytelling. Founded by Bee Janaye in 2021, we are a small but ambitious team of designers and project specialists working across high-end residential interiors in London and beyond. We pride ourselves on a practice that is warm, exacting, and culturally fluent — where craft, character, and considered project management sit side by side.
What do we do?
Our mission is "You, Undiluted." We create immersive, personality-driven homes rooted in neuroaesthetics — the connection between design, well-being, and emotion. Each project begins with the client: who they are, what they love, what they’ve lived through, and how they want to feel in their own four walls. From there, we build spaces that hold their story rather than impose a house style on top of it.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Creative Director and working closely with the Studio Director, you will deliver multiple residential projects concurrently, working to agreed programmes and budgets. You will be responsible for key stages across interior architecture and FF&E, producing creative design work, technical drawings and detailed specifications for high-end private clients in London and internationally. You will sit at the intersection of creative ambition and project rigour — and be comfortable holding both.
What we’re looking for:
• Someone with a genuine, evident love of design, art, craft and culture — and the curiosity to keep learning.
• A designer who thrives in a small studio: equally comfortable working independently to a high standard and collaborating closely across a tight-knit team.
• Confident, warm and credible with clients, suppliers and contractors.
• Proactive, organised and open to feedback, with strong instincts and the judgement to know when to push and when to listen.
• An all-rounder: creative concept generation backed by solid technical understanding and a respect for the numbers.
• Someone who takes ownership and is willing to be accountable for the quality of what leaves the studio.
• A communicator who can write and speak clearly, precisely and confidently.
The ideal candidate must have:
• A formal qualification in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
• At least 4 years experience in high-end residential interiors
• Full proficiency in CAD and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Strong working knowledge of both interior architecture and FF&E, with the technical fluency to move confidently between the two.
• Experience across all RIBA stages, from concept through to handover and snagging.
• Solid understanding of project programmes, critical paths and how to hold a deadline.
• Financial literacy — comfort reading and working to a cost plan, tracking spend against budget and flagging risk early.
• Good supplier, finishes and FF&E knowledge across the UK market, and an appetite to keep building it.
• A broad and considered understanding of materiality.
• Impeccable written and verbal communication, with a clean eye for presentation layout.
• A sharp eye for detail, colour and composition.
We expect you to:
• Work from our Battersea studio base at least four days per week.
• Develop initial concepts for internal review and evolve them under the direction of the Creative Director.
• Bring fresh references, sources and ideas to the studio — antiques, art, makers, materials, anything that pushes the work forward.
• Produce sketches, drawings, mood boards and client presentations to a high standard.
• Space plan with confidence and rigour.
• Produce delivery drawings and specifications to design intent package level.
• Design and develop bespoke joinery, furniture, upholstery and lighting in collaboration with the wider team.
• Work closely with project managers, architects, contractors and suppliers, maintaining clear and timely communication throughout.
• Attend internal and external design meetings and contribute meaningfully to both.
• Source, specify and procure FF&E to agreed budgets, and track spend against the cost plan with the Studio Director.
• Work with contractors and suppliers to make sure design intent and quality are delivered on site.
• Manage your own workload across multiple projects, hold your deadlines and flag pressure points early.
• Review and check information produced by sub-contractors and consultants.
• Troubleshoot calmly when things shift on site or in the programme.
• Attend site, snag thoroughly and help bring projects cleanly over the line.
